A Freewheelin’ Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties by Suze Rotolo

Freewheelin

If you are looking for something interesting to read over the summer, then may I point you in the direction of “A Freewheelin' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties” by Suze Rotolo.

If the name doesn’t immediately ring any bells, then the photograph on the cover will. Suze Rotolo was Bob Dylan’s girlfriend in the early 60s and is best known for appearing alongside a young Bob on the cover of Freewheelin. This is her memoir of that time, her relationship with Dylan when he was making the transition from folk singer to superstar and of her place as a woman in the Sixties. It isn’t a bitter, or gossipy story (which may disappoint some readers looking for the dirt on Dylan), but a rather thoughtful book written by someone who led an interesting life in her own right.

Amazon are currently selling the book for less than £4.

Ceiling Rose Clock

Ceiling-rose-clock-3676-p

We’ve featured many a clock on these pages, but designer Adam Kay goes back a little further than the norm for the inspiration for his Ceiling Rose Clock.

This timepiece is a reinvention of the classic Victorian ceiling rose. It has been designed to look just as decorative as it is functional. It is made from lightweight cellular resin and measures 40cm in diameter.

Buy the Ceiling Rose Clock online from Rockett St George priced £47.

Barbican

Another retro gem from the high street, this John Lewis Barbican leather sofa, which is available in a medium or a large size, depending on your living room size/needs.

We love the curves, we love the angled legs and we also love that pleated back. That frame is made of oak, while the upholstery is in a neutral-coloured Prescott hide – two Andrew Martin fabric scatter cushions offering a bit of contrast for free.

If you want one, the company is taking pre-orders now, with prices starting at £1,400.

eBay watch: JVC 3240GM Videosphere space age television

Videosphere

An icon of the 1970s, this JVC 3240GM Videosphere space age television is just £1 on eBay right now.

Granted you'll need to get it converted for use to digital (in the UK anyway), but if you can deal with that, this is a fine example. A 'limited' grey version, it's described as being in 'very good' condition and 'hardly used'. A few age scratches being the only issue. But on the plus side, the base and chain are intact.

Not sure how much it will go for in the end, but right now, it's a bargain.

The It Girl Dress by Mode Merr

Itgirl

While many of our favourite retro reproduction brands on RTG concentrate on a largely 50s look, there are often many sixties-look gems among the rockabilly faves. This It Girl dress by Mode Merr is one such dress, firing on all cylinders for an irresistible sixties style.

Th simplicity of the dress compliments the figure hugging cut well, providing that sophistication that always goes hand in hand with retro sex appeal. A high collar is given some spice with a notch, while short sleeves give some youth to the conservative pencil skirt style.

Get it online from Mode Merr for $82.
