Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 trainers get Mesh Pack

Mesh

It's the same old shape, but now the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 trainers have been reissued with a Mesh Pack variation.

That effectively means the leather upper has been replaced by a mesh finish, which apparently allows your feet to 'breathe' more easily, especially on those warm summer days. Aside from that, this is the same 1960s Onitsuka Tiger shoe, first seen at the Mexico Olympics in 1968 and the first to feature the company's trademark stripes.

Of course, these days, it works more as a slimline casual shoe rather than a runner. If that's what you're looking for, check out Schuh, which will be selling them for around the £60 mark.

eBay watch: Sharp 5P-12G 1970s space age television

Sharp

How useful it is, I don't know (unless you slip in a digibox in some way), but just as an interesting piece of home decor, this Sharp 5P-12G television is something of a winner.

It's a design I've never seen before, although it's not a million miles from the JVC Videosphere 'space helmet' TV. Made in Japan and described as being in 'near mint' condition by the seller, the TV oozes 70s space age cool and has a 'straight', working antenna. A bonus if you can still get analogue TV in your area.

Like I said earlier, I don't know if these things can be converted to digital via a box. If not, it's just an eye-catching design. But at just £1 on eBay right now (plus postage), that might be enough to justify the price.

Sagaform ceramic fish platter

Sagaform

This ceramic fish platter from Sagaform references both its geographical and design heritage.

It's designed to bring a traditional Scandinavian platter of fish-based delicacies to your table while it also has a definite 1950s look, not dissimilar to Marianne Nilsson's Herring design dating from that decade and available from New House Textiles.

This platter is clearly intended for display as well as use, with a hole at the top enabling it to be hung up on the kitchen wall. Like Nilsson's design, it's also available on a jar – perfect for storing away your fishy delicacies.

The platter costs £19.95.

‘Old time’ car desk accessory by Troika

Troika car

Got the retro car bookends? Complete the look of a high-flying executive office with Troika’s old time car desk accessory.

It’s described as ‘old time’ and I’m afraid I’m also no closer than that to recognising the model of car this might have been based on. However, it’s definitely got a glamorous retro look, suitable for adorning (presumably walnut) writing desks. It’s also vaguely useful too – as it’s magnetic you can use it for storing up paper clips or having other office based fun with metallic items.

It’s perfectly priced for a gift at £25.

Modernist-style London table lamp by Original BTC

London

We're big fans of Original BTC and here's a new design from the company – the London table lamp.

It obviously takes modernist inspiration, as well as being not unlike the Elio Martinelli Serpente table lamp from the mid-60s. Either way, it's a stylish piece, designed by Charles Bowles and with a spun aluminium semi-sphere shade, solid chromed base and matching cotton braided flex.

John Lewis is the place to grab these, so keep your eye on there for this new arrival, priced around the £350 mark.
