Walsh Lostock trainers – handmade shoes with an 80s twist

Walsh_lostock1

We have featured Walsh before, notably with its rather smart Bazley shoes. But now the company is going back to its roots with the Walsh Lostock trainers.

Lostock, if you didn't know, is a district of Bolton, with the shoes now back to being handmade in the company's original Bolton factory. Check out the Walsh Twitter page for some shot of the shoes actually being made.

In terms of the shoe, it's an 80s-style running shoe that's designed more for the casual market, packing a nylon upper with leather and suede detailing, along with a chunky sole. A few colour options available, but all with limited availability as they've been made to order – they'll retail at selected retailers for between £70 and £80.

Gorgeously Glam Umbrella from Wysteria Lane

Brolly

The rainy season appears to be getting its hooks in, at least around RTG HQ, so a stylish umbrella is a very worthwhile investment at the moment. Thankfully, a good looking umbrella definitely doesn't have to cost much, with this Gorgeously Glam Umbrella from Wysteria Lane.

With the perfect balance between cutesy glam and practicality, the hook handled brolly has a burlesque-style ruffle at the rim in a striking fuschia pink. Chic black on the dome-shaped body ensures this umbrella is a timeless piece you can feel happy to use every day.

Carnaby Street: 1960 – 2010 exhibition and limited edition book

Towns

Still Synonymous with swinging London, Carnaby Street is celebrated from Friday February 26th 2010 at the Carnaby Street: 1960 – 2010 exhibition.

The exhibition, which takes place at the 38 Carnaby Street gallery, will apparently put into context the history of Carnaby from its earliest origins in the 16th Century to the present day, but will of course have much of its emphasis on the 1960s. As well as the exhibition, there will also be a limited edition book of the same name, featuring images from photographer Philip Townsend (like the one above) and exclusive interviews with people who have lived and worked in Carnaby including The Who’s Pete Townsend.

The exhibition will be open 7 days a week at 38 Carnaby Street, London W1. That's also where you'll find the book.

Drink Me Necklace by MishaMakes

Drinkme

There are many Great British literary characters of all shapes and sizes, but there are arguably few that resonated so well with 1960s culture as Alice and her friends from Alice In Wonderland. Capturing an instantly recognisable piece of imagery from the story, this Drink Me Necklace from MishaMakes is a great little piece of retro jewellery.

The bottle is suspended from a long gold-look chain, with the pendant decorated by a small red rose made from a metallic material. Handmade by the seller on Folksy, you can even choose the length of chain that suits you best.

Get it online from MishaMakes Folksy page for £13.

eBay watch: John Baker’s EMS VCS3 synthesiser from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop

Baker

A long title, but for lovers of old British sci-fi, John Baker's EMS VCS3 synthesiser from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop could be worth raiding those life savings for.

John Baker was the man behind much of the mad electronic music at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, used most famously on Dr Who in the 70s. Indeed, the music itself is so popular, it even has two CDs on release packed with it.

But back to the VCS3, which 'looks in good condition', but has been unused since the late 1970s, although it has been in 'dry storage' since it was acquired from John Baker's estate. I think that means 'buyer beware'. Anyway, super rare, much sought-after, packed with history and currently at £3,877 on eBay.

Darling Clementine and Ferm Living Marionette cushions

DCforFermLiving

Back last year we showed you some of Darling Clementine's 70s cards and notebooks. The company has now teamed up with another Retro To Go favourite Ferm Living to introduce some of their distinctive artwork into the home with the Marionette cushions

The cushions feature four of their typically colourful characters: Frank Fox, Elle Elephant, Posy Panda and, the one with the best name, Aristo Katt. Although they are aimed at kids, I reckon a couple could sneak a few into your living room quite happily too.

The cushions cost 29.95 Euros each.
