Fuff City Espresso cup

Fuff city

Fans of 1960s architecture may like to sip their coffees from this Fuff City espresso cup.

The cup is decorated in a panoramic illustration of what they describe as 'traditional British landscape' which translates to high rises and concrete buildings. If you look a bit closer, you can even see the Trellick Tower rising in the background. The scene is topped off with an image of a typically British bird – the pigeon that crops up on all of Fuff City's wares.

The company also sells an estuary design with a similar look. This cup and saucer will set you back £12.

1950s-inspired Acoustics bowl by Gillies Jones

Acoustics bowl

The Southbank Centre is again drawing on its design history in commissioning new products. Earlier in the year we showed you the Net and Ball rug while this Acoustics bowl by Gillies Jones is also inspired by the same iconic building.

Its pattern is based on a 1950s Ulster Weavers Tapestry that was produced for the Royal Festival Hall. The look of the design is transformed depending on which of the gold or red colour options you prefer, though both are sympathetic to the colours of the building.

This interesting piece costs £150.

Jonathan Adler midcentury-style Mr and Mrs Godfrey chair

Godfrey1

More midcentury-styled gems from Jonathan Adler, this time the Mr and Mrs Godfrey chairs.

Yes, his 'n' hers chairs, both with those slghtly angled legs, high backs, button detailing, plenty of comfort and tasty curves. Differences? The 'his' of the Mr Godfrey (pictured over the page) offering a slightly higher back (and slightly shorter legs).

Check out both at Jonathan Adler right now, prices starting at $1,495.

Adidas reissues 1980s ZX 500 running shoes; throws in an 80-style ZX Runner computer game

Zx500

Interesting sales pitch from Adidas, reissuing the mid-80s ZX 500 running shoes and sweetening the deal further with an exclusive Adidas computer game that could have come from the same era.

But let's look at the footwear first, a variation on what's described as a 'bio-mechanically correct, high mileage running shoe', complete with rubber outsole studs that grip soft ground, but 'retreat' for harder surfaces. Those studs get a colour makeover too, as does the cushioned sole, in contrast to the predominantly black upper. Oh yes – there's that game too.

Zanotta 1960s Marcuso table by Marco Zanuso

Marcuso

We're featuring the Zanotta Marcuso table by Marco Zanuso for two reasons. Firstly, because it was such an influential design and secondly, because you might well find a version on your local junk shop.

Dating back to 1969 and still available in different shapes and sizes (small and large, as well as round, square or rectangular), the Marcuso is generally a glass-plated table, where 15mm plate glass rests on removable legs in 18/8 stainless steel – the legs screwing into stainless steel discs fixed to the glass.

Prices vary, but start from around £1,600. But don't despair – it's a much-copied design from the 70s and something similar comes along in junk shops, house clearance places and of course eBay quite often. Grab one of those (we once had a huge dining table version) and pass it off as the original. Trust us, no one will know the difference.

Diner Dress by Heartbreaker Fashion

Dinerdot

When most of us recall fifties fashion, there's nothing that sums up the American influence like the café and diner scene. This Heartbreaker Fashion dress captures all the kitschy appeal of that aesthetic in one item, while avoiding looking like something from the dressing up box.

The Diner Dress has an instantly retro cut, with a nipped in waist, capped sleeves and a circle skirt. The white accents at the collar and pockets help to create the diner style, while a simple polka dot fabric is a surefire retro hit.

It's available from Heartbreaker online for $85.
