Hello Captain Coat from Topshop

Hello captain

Autumn's arrival means coat shopping is a must for almost everyone, and while classic black might be tempting, taking a chance is worth it at high street prices. This Hello Captain Coat from Topshop combines the goes-with-everything appeal of a black coat, with a little bit extra.

The use of contrasting white accents works perfectly to create a nautical look, which isn't overdone. Double breasted metallic buttons and a simple a-line cut mean this is versatile and subtle enough to wear every day, but still makes a chic retro statement.

Get it from Topshop now for £70.

Bengt Ek vintage-style In-Motion clock at Anthropologie

Motion

It's not actually a vintage piece, but the Bengt Ek In-Motion clock at Anthropologie would pass for one to 99 out of 100 people.

A stylish wall clock, the In-Motion has a swivel arm on the back, allowing you to swing it in the direction of wherever you are, although that bold vintage-style face is certain to catch the eye, no matter where it faces.

Aside from that, it has a zinc and glass construction, battery-powered quartz movement and a 6.25-inch diameter. It's priced at £56.43 online or if you can wait, a new Anthropologie store is opening on London's Regent Street in November.

Robert Welch Hobart 1960s candlestick range reissued by Heals

Hobart

Not strictly a reissue, the Robert Welch Hobart candlestick is still available directly in black in cast iron, but Heals has reissued its own exclusive version of this 1960s gem.

Heals showcased the design back in 1967, even featuring it on the front cover of the 1967 Heals catalogue – and this reissue (part of the Heal's ReDiscovers range) uses the same moulds (so features the same imperfections as the originals), but does offer up a modern concession of colour – glossy red and white alongside a matt black.

Prices start at £35 from the Heals website or bag a more basic version from Robert Welch directly from £21.50.

Instant photo frame: display your pictures like polaroids

Polaroid frame

The instant photo frame is an easy way to copy the look of the polaroid photograph. Made from acrylic plastic, it's a white frame that fits around your image. Each frame comes as laser cut flat packaging, marked to help you trim your photograph to fit the frame. A nice touch is that comments can be written across the bottom of the frame in a dry wipe marker

It's not the most complex idea or sophisticated looking frame but for $10 does that matter?
