Yves mid-century writing desk by Russell Pinch

Yves

In this computer-dominated age, there’s nothing more old school than writing a letter. And there’s no finer place to do it than at this Yves writing desk.

It’s pure mid-century style, the work of Russell Pinch and made of solid walnut, finished off with a green leather top and matching drawer for your essentials.

The price of £1,895 isn’t cheap – but this is furniture designed to last you years, not until next year’s fad.

Designer vs high street: Isamu Noguchi Akari lamp and the B&Q Chongo table lamp

Akari

Once again, the high street offers a classic design at a budget price – the B&Q Chongo table lamp.

As you can see, it’s very much inspired by the Akari table lamp, the work of Isamu Noguchi and dating back to 1951. The original uses Shoji-paper to create a ‘sun-like’ light for your room, as well as adding a serious dose of mid-century style to any home.

The B&Q version uses the same shape and principle, but with rice paper for the shade. Certainly lacking the finesse of the original, it does offers the look for a seriously discounted price. The original Akari retails from £146.64, the B&Q version sells for just £10.48.

Not the first time we’ve featured Clifford Richards here – and it’ll not the last if he keeps producing cool designs like this Clifford Richards Medicine Cabinet.

Just as a piece of pop art-style design it would be worth a mention, but as a practical metallic bathroom cabinet, which can be wall-mounted or left freestanding, it’s certainly a winner.

Sized at 30cm x 30cm x 15cm, you can pick it up for £86.50.

Vogue_rosalyn

Stop Staring! has been mentioned on this site a few times, becoming famed for the brand’s excellent forties tailoring and statement dresses. While many of their best have some of the typical conservatism of the decade’s style, this Vogue Rosalyn dress makes it a little more glam.

In a stretch millenium fabric and daring gold satin, it’s a great evening dress look for special occasions. With a high waist and kick flip skirt, it oozes starlet style.

The dress is available online from the Stop Staring! boutique for $158, pre-ordered to Nov. 7th.
