A very modern piece of design, but with a nod to the past – the Sex Pistols Bearbricks.

If you’ve never encountered Bearbricks before, they’re a Japanese design toy, created by  Medicom in different sizes and limited edition designs. And as those designs are never reissued, they are seriously collectable.

Michele De Lucchi: First Chair

The First Chair was designed for Michele De Lucchi for the Milan-based company Memphis, who caused a stir in the design world in the 1980s.

The First Chair was designed in 1983 although its quirky design could easily fit in items from the 1960s as it has a similar playfulness.

Made from enamelled wood and metal, it costs $850 (approximately £420) from Nova68.

S3 Modular Screen

Designed by Andrew Tye, this modular screen goes by the simple, but Sci-Fi sounding name of the S3.

It is made up of interconnecting panels and steel pins, and is available in a variety of finishes, all of which could look suitably retro. Pictured here is the white gloss laminate version which has a space age look to it, but other options include walnut, maple and oak veneer which will look more traditional and perhaps Seventies.
