Sägen Butik – vintage design from Sweden

Sagen

Thanks to Kelly for the tip off for Sägen Butik, which produces jewellery and accessories based on, or using, vintage design from Sweden.

Many of the items available are handmade and in numbers that should ensure you’ll have something unique to your town. Typical are the two items above – the Amulett and Lido. Amulett uses a design made famous by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg, with a 60cm silver chain added for wearing. It retails at $63 (around £32). The Lido is another vintage porcelain design, again with a silver chain, this time retailing for $60.06 (£30).

If that kind of look appeals, check out the site for cufflinks, rings, tie clips, earrings and much more.

The Fader Magazine’s Garcia t-shirt

Garciashirt US Magazine The Fader has its latest issue available – its annual Icons/Photography issue in fact – which this time leads with Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. And for all you closet hippies out there, they’ve also produced a limited edition Jerry Garcia t-shirt.

The t-shirt is pictured right, with a close up of the design underneath. It’s been produced by District Threads, with artwork by Si Scott, with the "Fader" logo on the arm to finish things off. It sells for $25, which is just over £12.

And you can download the magazine online for free if you can’t pick it up locally, along with an accompanying audio mix, which again is free to download.

French Connection travel plimsoles

Fcuk_plim Regular readers will know that we’re big fans of stripped-down, no nonsense footwear from an age gone by. And while these French Connection travel plimsoles might be a modern shoe, they do share some of those attributes.

Not a million miles from something like the YMC Plimsole shoe, these are designed for throwing in a suitcase or travel bag – and will scrunch up and fall back into place if you’re short of space. They have a rubber sole and toe, fabric body and elasticated back, as well as the option to go for laces or not.

Black is pictured here, but the all white pair is certainly the best for looks. You can pick them up online for a reasonable £35.

Tag Heuer updates classic Monaco Vintage in black

Monaco_vintage_black We have featured the TAG Heuer "Steve McQueen" Monaco watch previously, but there’s a new version on the market we think looks even sharper – the TAG Heuer Monaco Vintage in black.

Technically, it’s the same – a copy of the world’s first square-cased chronograph, designed to match McQueen’s suit in the movie Le Mans, which itself was a replica of the one worn by the first driver sponsored by TAG Heuer  – Jo Siffert. And it was the first watch with a microrotor for automatic rewinding – the revolutionary “Chronomatic Calibre 11.”

This new vintage version has black dial with orange and blue stripes, vintage "Gulf" logo and matching black alligator strap with orange stitching. A colour scheme paying tribute to the Porsche-Gulf 917K car in the movie. It’s a limited edition of 4,000 pieces – and if you want one, you’ll have to pay £2,500.

Squares op art vase

Squares Nice to see an everyday object carry a heavy dose of retro design – which is what you get with this Squares vase.

Squares by name and squares by nature – both the shape of the vase and the op art-style black and white outer design, which combines matt white with the glossy black. And if you’re bored of the look after a while, turn it round – there’s a similar, but slightly different pattern on the reverse.

Available online, you can pick one up for £45.
