Midcentury-style Radio Chair at John Lewis

Radiochair

Love this newly-arrived design at John Lewis – the Radio Chair.

Described as having '1960s retro style', it's very much a midcentury-inspired armchair. Especially with those splayed, tapered birch legs, rounded backrest and slim, slightly flared arms. Perfect for kicking back with a good book or for a night in front of the TV.

The Radio Chair is upholstered in that bright Breeze fabric and is available online right now, priced at £599. There's even a matching footrest, selling for an additional £299.

John Lewis 60s-style Cadenza leather armchair and sofa

Cadenza2

Another retro-styled gem off the high street, this John Lewis Cadenza leather armchair and sofa.

A 60s-inspired design, with more than a bit of Florence Knoll about it, both the armchair and sofa are upholstered in high-quality, heavyweight black hide with what's described as a 'beautiful grain'. There's also that panelled seam detailing on the back cushions and inner/outer arms and polished metal 'sled legs'.

You can see a snap of the sofa over the page, with the price of that at £1,999, while the armchair goes for £1,200.

eBay watch: 1970s De Sede leather armchair

Desede

You might recognise the name De Sede from this site in the past, with items like the iconic space age DS-1025 modular sofa (made famous by the movie Logan's Run) and the recently-reissued DS51 armchair. Neither came cheap, so this De Sede leather armchair looks decent value.

Sadly, there isn't a model number offered and we don't recognise it, but there's no denying it's a big, comfy armchair that screams the era and if it carries the De Sede name, it's going to be a quality item.

According to the seller, the chair is in 'good condition', but may have been refinished at some point, if that matters to you. It's on a 'Buy It Now' for £425 or the seller will take an offer.

Bauhaus-inspired Scott chair at John Lewis

Scott1

A very interesting design from John Lewis, with the Scott chair looking like a modernist reissue, but actually being a new design.

Inspired by the Bauhaus school of design, it's a stylish mix of metal and leather, that uncomplicated polished stainless steel frame supporting the leather recliner and cushioning, which is perfect for relaxing into after a busy day (or during a less-than-busy weekend).

See over the page for a front-facing shot and if you like what you see, the Scott chair sells for £999.

1950s H57 lounge chair by Herbert Hirche reissued

H57

A student of the Bauhaus school, Herbert Hirche was a mainstay of German design, particularly between the 50s and 70s, which was also the period when the H57 lounge chair was created.

Specifically, it hit the market in 1957, with the chair initially created for the Interbau Berlin fair in 1956. Mixing influences of his past and of the era it was designed in, the minimalistic chair has a wonderfully curved fibreglass shell that's padded for comfort, with those skinny angled legs made of steel.

This Richard Lampert reissue is available with fabric, suede or leather finishes (the latter with chrome legs), prices starting at £1,687.
