eBay watch: 1978 Lotus Esprit S2 car

Lotus1

James Bond drive a Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me, which you may remember, turned into a submarine. This 1978 Lotus Esprit S2 doesn't do that…at least, not as far as we know.

But it does have one special feature – the power to turn heads. This is 1970s excess on four wheels, the kind of car no one in their right mind would build in 2011. But it was around in the mid-70s, with this example in silver with a red leather interior, fully working, with new bumpers, a new battery and a stainless steel exhaust.

eBay watch: 1970s space age Estyma alarm clock

Est

Big thanks to Andrew Graham for spotting and sending us this superb piece of 1970s space age design, the Estyma alarm clock.

It's a digital flip clock, made in (West) Germany, with that bold yellow outer shell contrasting with the black and white display within. No power needed either – this has an old school wind-up, one mechanism for the date, the other for the time.

The clock is said to run 'fine', with the bright yellow case said to be 'virtually unmarked'. The only blemish is a 'small chip' on the clear scene, which isn't all that noticeable, check the images on the site to see if it's a deal breaker. If not, bidding right now is at just 99 pence.

eBay watch: 1972 MG B GT car

Mg

If you fancy dipping your toe in the waters of classic car ownership, this 1972 MG B GT could be a good place to start.

That year is important, as it is one of the last tax-exempt MG Bs, as well as being one of the models with chrome bumpers and overdrive in 3rd and 4th gear. It's also described as 'mechanically sound' and with 'sold bodywork', with the added bonus of a Webasto sunroof and Rostyle wheels, not to mention a modern CD MP3 player within.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury-style mini sideboard

50s

It could probably be described in various ways, but we're naming it as a mini sideboard, which is up for auction now and still at a modest price.

A 1950s design with a midcentury look, this sideboard or cabinet open to offer up two shelves for storage within, those doors finished off with those contrasting period handles. Also worth noting are those angled legs and overhanging sides, with the veneer said to be 'birch or pear' (no, we don't get the latter either).

According to the seller, the sideboard is in 'very good original condition', with some scratches on the 'top plate' and 'small veneer damage' on top edge of one door (which isn't visible when the door is shut). Price is reasonable right now though, standing at £12.50.

eBay watch: 1950s British Standard Motor Company Standard Eight car

Super

A long title, but it does tell you what is up for auction right now, this Standard Eight car, which was built back in 1954 by the British Standard Motor Company and is still going strong today.

In fact, if you want a 1950s runaround to match your '50s looks, it could be ideal. The car was built in various shapes 1938 and 1959, this obviously being a later example. it was eventually replaced by the Triumph Herald, another gem that we've featured on various occasions.

Anyway, this car has an 803cc engine and has been used by the current owner for his/her daily commute on a daily basis. Coupled with its 12-month MOT, it's certainly a runner. Condition looks good too, judging by the photos. But best of, the price is in the right place too – £1,600 right now. Lots more shots of the car on the listing.

Dansette

Not just another Dansette, this Dansette RG.31 comes with legs and a radio.

It dates back to 1964 and has apparently been serviced, so it is in full working order and 'very good condition'. Those legs are original too. The RG.31 has a four-valve amplifier, with controls for treble, bass, on/off and wave change. The latter for the built-in radio, which is tuned with the dial on the front. To finish things off, the bakelite Dansette emblem lights up when it is turned on. Check out the listing for the full lowdown.

Complete with a replacement stereo compatible cartridge and brand new stylus, the Dansette RG.31 is currently at just £1.60 right now. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
