Little Winter Trees by Eloise Renouf

Eloise renouf

Looking for some seasonally appropriate, reasonably priced original art with a retro feel? This Little Winter Trees print by Eloise Renouf is surely the answer to such a quest.

Renouf is a Nottingham-based designer who interest in mid-century textiles and pattern is reflected in her work. Like the mid-century artists she admires, her designs use natural imagery, breaking it down to its skeletal forms. This print is a great example of her work, with the subdued pale colours used enhancing the Wintery look of the woodland scene.

A4 sized, the print is limited to 100 copies and costs $25.

Alexander Girard Christmas cards at Lagom

Girard angel
Send your festive wishes mid-century style this year, with the Alexander Girard Christmas cards available from Lagom.

The cards add to their existing range of greeting cards based on Girard's colourful designs. Girard apparently amassed nativities for the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe (in term inspiring the recently issued nativity set) so it's no surprise these influenced his work. Shown above is a card based on a 1962 Nativity Angel. You can also pick from a card featuring a Nativity dating from 1968 or Flying Angels from 1971.

Individual cards cost £1.80 each, or you can get a set of the angels in three different colours for £3.40.

COAL Design Horrice Chair

CD_horrice_1large
The Horrice Chair was created by COAL Design in association with the Hidden Art Shop for this year’s 100% Design event. So in that respect, it is very much a new design, but its shape is very much in the mid-century style.

Its frame is made from interlocking sections of Walnut veneered MDF, whilst the seat is upholstered in wool in a choice of colours, including the unusual lemon yellow option pictured here. The back cushion has four buttons in a contrasting colour, a sweet little finishing touch. The chair is made in Sheffield with all of the materials sourced within Yorkshire.

The Horrice chair costs £599 and can be ordered through the Hidden Art Shop website.

Heal’s City cupboard

 City small

At first you'd be forgiven for thinking Heal's City cupboard is simply inspired by mid-century looks. That influence is obvious, but this design is also described as 'a mixture of contemporary and retro styling', giving a twist to the look.

That's because while the doors are are made from cut walnut veneer and the feet are solid walnut, the actual cupboard is made from white lacquer. I'm not totally convinced by the combination (and think I would have preferred just a walnut cupboard) but, if you like this juxtaposition of looks, there's also an accompanying sideboard available.

The City cupboard will set you back £1495.
