If there's something with looks far in excess of its practical use, it is the Timor desk calendar by Enzo Mari.
The calendar was introduced in 1967 for the Italian firm Danese, with a design influenced by the old train signals Mari remembered as a child. It would catch your eye on any desk in the world, but even its creator realised its limitations.
As a perpetual calendar, it needs changing everyday. And unlike a paper calendar, you can't write on it – and there's no dates (such as public holidays or festivals) shown on it.
But do you really buy a piece of classic design for its practical use? Thought not. Still in production today, you can pick one up for now for £99.
