London Skyline print by Kate McLelland

London SkylineLondon's landmarks have provided inspiration to artists over hundreds of years. Kate McLelland's London Skyline print offers another take on the capital.

This striking design was recently awarded second placed in the London Transport design competition and the Edinburgh based illustrator has drawn on folk styles for her depiction, adding a fairytale quality to landmarks like the BT Tower and the Gherkin, as well as to traditional London sights like red phone boxes and double decker buses. The print is depicted in the patriotic colours of red, white and blue.

The print is limited to 41 copies and costs $50.

Sinclair C5 electric car gets a sequel – the Sinclair X-1

Sinclairx1

We love the quirkiness opf the Sinclair C5 – and we have flagged them up on eBay in the past when we've spotted them. Sadly, the buying public wasn't quite to so keen on the mini electric car when it landed in the mid-80s. Indeed, less than 12,000 shifted and the company went into administration. Here's hoping the follow-up, the newly-launched Sinclair X-1, get a more favourable response.

It's a similar kind of vehicle, but according to Cnet, has a few improvements – a reclining nylon seat and a waterproof acrylic bubble being the most obvious, the latter keeping you secure from the elements. At least, more secure than the original. Still not great in a heavy downpour.

Manchester Bus Print

Il_570xN_186708822
London’s transport is featured on plenty of things, but what of the North? Manchester has its own iconic transport in the old style orange bus that ran into the city, as is immortalised in this Manchester Bus Print.

The print is by Tea and Ceremony and features the 164 route which is the service that used to take the artist from their home into the city centre. The print is sold unframed but as it is A4 size it should be easy to frame yourself.

The Manchester Bus Print costs $18 (around £11.50) from Tea and Ceremony’s Etsy shop.

Going Places kids rug from Designers Guild

Going-places-kids-rug-main
This Going Places rug from Designers Guild is another example of a kid's design that's as desirable for adults too.

It's a colourful design, intended to capture the hustle and bustle of transport in a busy place. That translates into simple outlines of cars and trains, set amongst the backdrop of cars and mountains. Both the subject matter and the treatment of the design are reminiscent of classic transport posters.

Made from acrylic and measuring 120 x 170cm, the rug costs £195.

Double Decker Routemaster Print

181732_london+bus2_2
The Double Decker Routemaster Print from I Love Design celebrated the most iconic of all buses.

Rather than being drawn in the traditional red, the buses are all decorated in a choice of traditional British patterns. Yes, that does mean the Union Jack, but also two patterns that celebrate London with illustrations of phone boxes and landmarks and one decorated with a “bus and soldier” pattern. The history of the Routemaster is written at the bottom of the print.

The posters are sold unframed and cost £20 for the A3 size or £30 for the A2 size. Buy online from I Love Design’s shop on Not on the High Street.
