Orange leather handbag by Jasper Conran

20080201_089010602113_lrg

There just isn’t enough orange leather in fashion anymore, if you ask me. The classic vintage burnt orange does make an appearance once in a while, and I suspect we might see a little more of it now the fashion world is going through a seventies revival.

This oversized bag is a fantastic shade, and makes a really bold statement because of it. It’s by Jasper Conran and is available at Debenhams for £75. A great price for 100% real leather and a classic shape that mixes retro and cutting edge effortlessly.

Urban Outfitters UK’s new Film Noir collection

5112426433079_medThe high street’s love affair with retro keeps branching out into increasingly inspired niche areas in vintage and retro scenes, with varying results.

This time Urban Outfitters are having a go at channeling a touch of Old Hollywood glamour. This Mesh insert top reminds me somewhat of a neckline Marilyn Monroe caused something of a stir with. Unfortunately, you’ll have to use your imagination as UO are a shop which tends to peddle the emaciated look.

This top, however, would look great teamed with some starlet curves and a wiggle skirt. It’s yours for £28.

Corsage purse from Loop Kisslock at Urban Outfitters

This is one of many curious little examples of the high street’s tendency to mis-match their retro influences. Whether it works is your call.

This Corsage purse from Loop Kisslock is that pretty snap-shut style that everyone’s Nana used to own. They’ve made it distinctly different though with a mixture of psychedelic colour scheme and print, and very fifties corsage detailing.

The purse costs £12 from Urban Outfitters UK.

Sixties style Go-Go boots from Atom Retro

White_circle_biba_boots_2

You don’t need me to tell you all how white knee boots are an icon of sixties fashion. They’re often taken off, but rarely done well or faithfully.

Thankfully these Nancy boots by Atom Retro look the part thanks to their somewhat kitsch Biba-esque circle designs. Named after the girl who wore them best, they’re a pretty faithful shape too with their low chunky heel.

I’m going to hold back from making any puns on Ms Sinatra’s best known hit and simply say they’ll cost you $185.

Authentic 50s style womenswear from Marina Retro

235While I adore some modern clothes which take a touch of inspiration from retro styles, there’s nothing quite like an authentic vintage inspired outfit.

Marina Retro make each of their 50s styled blouses to order from original patterns. Available in a variety of colours, prints and shapes these blouses really look the real deal. The shop also makes a range of fifties circle skirts to complete the look.

This one costs a very reasonable £25, though it’ll take 4 weeks to reach you since they’re made to order.

Oversized retro sunglasses by Tom Ford

Index_2Okay, so the weather’s pretty miserable outside, and its definitely not Summer yet, but there’s no reason not to think ahead where shopping’s concerned, eh?

You’ll need time to save up for a perfect pair of designer sunglasses, and this pair from Tom Ford might just be the perfect retro pair for you. With thick rims reminiscent of Jackie O and a distinctly sixties-inspired shape, they’re a great statement pair.

You can buy these Bianca sunglasses from Net-a-Porter for £199.
