Purists may hate it, but the retro looks of the modern-day VW Beetle have certainly been popular commercially for the company. If you've not been bitten by the bug (sorry), you might be sold on this limited edition 1970s-inspired Volkswagen Beetle GSR.

But don't set your heart on it, as this is a seriously limited edition, especially in the UK. There are just 3,500 worldwide, with only 100 of those coming to the UK in September.

As for the car itself, it's a reworking of the original Beetle GSR (Gelb Schwarzer Renner), which sold in the same limited number 40 years ago and in a similar colourway, as the image below shows, although there is a grey and black option too.

It also has 19-inch alloys (larger than the standard model), R-Line racing seats with contrasting yellow stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a numbered plaque. The engine is a 207bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine  with either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox.

Prices are from £24,900 and you can pre-order now at the Volkswagen website or one of its dealers.
