The maker does other designs, but the Rambler 1950s-style Hi-Fi stereo console by Streamline is the one for me.

And why wouldn’t it be? It has the look, the functionality and a few hidden extras to get the party started. It’s not cheap, but this handmade piece is pretty special.

The Rambler is inspired by the midcentury modern era and its design, or, as the maker says, ‘when different angles pushed the boundaries of everyday life’. Everything from cars to architecture had a futuristic, space-age look, and interior design wasn’t far behind. There’s a reason why the design of the era is still so sought-after. It still has the ability to stop you in your tracks.

Not that this is an original. It’s a new design intended to look like it comes straight out of the mid-20th century. Perfect for a retro or midcentury modern interior, but also ideal for a modern home. Because the inner workings of this audio system bring in elements of the 21st century too.

So if you like the old, you’ll find a high-end turntable, along with some record storage, plus a set of controls that hark back to the middle of the 20th century. Did I mention this was also a drinks cabinet? Well, it is, with room for a decanter and glasses if that’s your thing.

Once the doors are closed. the LED lights offer up a warm glow through the cabinet, with sound helped along by the custom-designed Streamline HiFi hybrid tube amplifier, two Beyma eight-inch drivers, and two Beyma tweeters, with speaker enclosures ‘meticulously crafted to enhance the Rambler’s unique sonic profile, providing an authentic audiophile experience’.

As I said, this is very much old meets new, with the cabinet equipped with a Sonos Port or a WiiM Pro allowing you to seamlessly access streaming services like Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube, for example.

It’s a dream of a unit, but all that handmade goodness comes at a price. If you want one, you are looking at a price in the region of $15,000.
