1950s-style ABC is easy as 123 print by Sol Linero

Sol

L'Affiche Moderne is always an interesting place to look for quirky and often retro artwork without spending a fortune, as this ABC is easy as 123 print by Sol Linero testifies.

Sol Linero is an Argentinian illustrator based in Buenos Aires and obviously inspired by the 1950s, as the alphabet print shows, not to mention his similar Ponch and Lupita print, which is also available on the site.

The print above is limited to 300, available as everything from a print to a canvas in varying sizes. As you can imagine, prices vary because of this, but start at just over 23 Euros.

Vintage Wimbledon Poster Products

4210_1432_300_300_FFFFFF_0

With all the attention given to a certain football tournament, it is good to see that the London Transport Museum hasn’t forgotten about that other favourite summer sporting fixture, Wimbledon. Their shop has a range of products featuring vintage Wimbledon Poster designs.

Dating from the 1920s and 1930s, these six classic designs were originally used on posters to tell people who to reach the tennis tournament by public transport. The designs are mainly in shades of green and pink and do look very much of that era. Reproductions of four of the posters are available now as posters priced £13.95, but the designs have also been put onto mugs (£6.99 each or £27.50 for a set of four), placemats (£24.99 for a set of four), coasters (£12.99 for four) and travelcard holders (£4.95).

Visit the London Transport Museum Shop to see the whole collection.

1966 World Cup artwork from Wall Envy

Footy_close_1000

It's pretty hard to escape the rash of football inspired products at the moment. Here's an original piece of artwork that looks back to the 1966 World Cup, made by Wall Envy.

Wall Envy are the people behind the vintage French wall art we featured a while back. It uses the same idea: the words in this case being the names of the players in the 66 England World Cup squad. Like the other piece of artwork, the names are also illustrated onto a page from an old dictionary. However, in this piece – to help you recall that long forgotten taste of victory – the dictionary used is German.

The piece costs £13.
