U Old Bag Vintage Suitcases

Il_430xN_150548228

Working under the delightful name of U Old bag, textile designer Lisa Tiley creates bespoke products using reclaimed and vintage materials, which includes a range of Vintage Decoupage Suitcases.

A variety of old suitcases have been given a new lease of life by being decorated with vintage magazine images, then varnished with a protective lacquer to make it waterproof. Each piece is unique with the current range including weekend size suitcases and vanity cases. The prices range from about £160 up to £255, which isn’t particularly cheap, but perhaps worth it if only to avoid any confusion on the luggage carousel again.

You can buy online from U Old Bag’s Esty store.

Vintage Patterned Metal Storage Boxes

Metalbox

I’m always looking for storage solutions to keep my house in order and these Vintage Pattern Metal Storage Boxes look as if they could be quite useful.

They are available in three different sizes, all with decorated with vintage style floral lid and fan patterns on the sides. Pictured here is the middle size, measuring 30.5cm long x 20.5cm wide x 17cm high and priced £18.50. There is a smaller size (17cm x 13.5cm x 15cm) for £12 available in either cerise or purple that is an ideal size for storing tea, coffee or biscuits. The larger size would be good for office storage and costs £22.

We are the Mods Film UK Premiere

Sadie

Perhaps not the most original title for a film about mod culture, but E E Cassidy debut film “We are the Mods” takes an unsual angle on the subject .

The film is about two outcasts girls, Sadie and Nico, who “explore Britain’s 60’s mod culture of music, fashion, drugs and vintage scooters in contemporary Los Angeles”. The synopsis of the film sounds like a typical coming-of-age story, but the combination of female protagonists and mod styles should make it worth watching and if nothing else, the stills and trailer suggest that the film looks good.

You can view the trailer online at the We are the Mods website. The films receives its UK premiere at Raindance Film Festival next month on 6 October. Visit the Raindance website for full details of the screening.

Hommu Vintage Phone Wall Sticker

Vintage_phone

We’ve seen plenty of wall decals recently, but used in the right way, the Hommu Vintage Phone Wall Sticker is amongst the cleverest.

The black sticker is in the shape of a classic Bakelite 200 series telephone, and positioned next to a real telephone as shown in the photo here, can add a touch of humour to your home (but hopefully won’t prove to be too confusing!)

It costs 22 Euros and is available to buy directly from Hommu.

Jo Jo Duck Hooks

Swimmingducks

The Jo Jo Duck Hooks by designer-maker Haidée Drew are an amusing twist on the usual flying ducks.

Rather than flying across the wall in the traditional way, these ducks are mounted on the wall to give the impression that they are swimming down the wall instead. Rather than being merely an ironic decoration (which may be enough in itself), they have a function too as they can be used to hang up jewellery, keys or tea towels.

The Jo Jo Duck Hooks cost £20 from Swanky Maison

Make-Up Wallpaper by Jordi Labanda

Maakupwallpaper

The Make-Up Wallpaper by Jordi Labanda features retro-inspired stylised fashion illustrations of glamorous women with 60s style make-up.

It is available in a choice of five colour options: red, aqua, silver, chartreuse or violet, each featuring a mixture of these stylish ladies. As is often the case with these wallpaper designs, you need to use it cleverly and sparingly, but in the right setting it would make quite an impact.

The wallpaper costs £46 per roll from Tangle Tree Interiors, where you can also buy samples for £1 before committing to a full roll.
