Retro Candy Grabber

P1160_big

Retro sweets aren’t too difficult to buy with lots of retailers cashing in on our love of nostalgic treats, but this Retro Candy Grabber makes eating them a little more interesting (and challenging).

Recreating the old-fashioned arcade game, the machine is filled with candy and you then have to use skill and dexterity to lower the crane and grab some goodies. It can be filled up with anything you like but it comes with a free bag of popular 70s retro sweets including Love Hearts, Refreshers and Parma Violets.

It costs £19.95 and can be ordered from Firebox.

Brooklyn Poster by Jim Datz

Datz_brooklyn_poster_1

The website Three Potato Four have teamed up with designer Jim Datz to produce a series of City posters, which combine vintage typography and 1950s style illustrations.

The Brooklyn Poster is the second in this series and is available as a first edition of 200 prints, each signed by the artist. The first design featured Manhattan, and that is still available, but is now in its second print run which is slightly less exclusive at 500 copies.

The posters cost $48 (around £30) and can be ordered from Three Potato Four.

Visit the Caroline McGrath website for further details.

Emma Bridgewater’s designs often have a nostalgic look to them and her Union Jack products continue in this tradition.

The collection includes various sized mugs (including a 1 pint mug for the big tea and coffee drinkers), plates, tins, a teapot and my favourite item, this old-fashioned style biscuit barrel. Prices start from £3.50 for a Melamine Beaker, going up to £49.95 for the teapot. The pint mug costs £21.95 and the biscuit barrel £13.

To view the whole collection online, visit Emma Bridgewater’s website.

Flying Scotsman Washbag

Ww_flying_scotsman_washbag2

In 1928, the Flying Scotsman first ran non-stop between London and Edinburgh, so we can only presume that it was for the 80th anniversary of this event that this Flying Scotsman Washbag was released.

The exterior of the bag is adorned with vintage advertisements for the steam train, whilst the interior is practical with pockets for organising your toiletries.

It costs just under £30 and can be bought online from Tree House Blue.

Keith’s Console

Kmoonconsole

Keith’s Console is described as being “inspired by the rock and roll antics of the legendary Mr. Keith Moon”.

The designer Richard Shed had previously created a piece of shelving “Mr Moon Shelf” based on a story about Keith’s drunken antics, throwing a shelf at a wall (I’m taking this tale with a pinch of salt, knowing the similar story involving a bottle). That product no longer seems to be available but the related console table is still being produced. It has an asymmetric shape so when placed against a wall, it looks as if it is coming out of the wall.

The console is available in two versions, one with two legs on the left and one with two on the right. It is available to buy for £250 from Thorsten Van Elten.
