Looking for a retro-styled way to pump out the tunes from your iPod? You’ll find it in the MP3 Mini Amp Speaker.
Shaped like a classic rock amplifier, the Mini Amp can knock out 5w of audio, with connectivity for your favourite MP3 player, as well as a USB connector, should you wish to connect to a PC or laptop. There’s even treble and bass controls to refine your sound.
Look out for it in the coming weeks, priced at £19.99.
We covered the watch some time back, but now the classic Swiss Mondaine Clock is available for your home.
New for 2008 as a large wall clock, but anything but a new design – it was the work of a Swiss railway employee (Hans Hilfiker) in the 1940s, designed to be easily readable from a distance, with a red second hand to enable passengers to judge precisely when trains would arrive and depart. The Swiss Railways obviously being more punctual than the British ones.
It has a stainless steel case, quartz movement and a diameter of 40cm, with power by 2x AA batteries. You can pick one up for £190. Find out more at the Panik Design website
Simple, stylish and created for the designer’s own home – the George Nelson Daybed.
Yes, this mid-century gem was designed for Nelson’s weekend home on Long Island, offering a seat, a recliner and if you remove the back, a temporary guest bed too.
It consists of a solid maple or ash frame, padded with polyurethane foam and finished with a choice of cloth, including the green above. Expect to pay around £4,000.
Skateboards have been hip for more years than I can remember, so what better thing to convert into an audio system – as is the case with the Skateboard Speaker Shelf.
It’s a two-way item. First up, it’s a shelf for storing our bits and pieces, but also it’s an audio system, with 2x 3-inch speakers built in and a dock that’s compatible with most iPod models.
Sized at 29 x 5.5 x 8 inches and available in a choice of colours, it sells for $129, which is around £65.
If you’re a fan of rock and pop memorabilia, you need to make a note of July 10th 2008 in your diary – that’s the date of the Popular Culture: Rock and Pop Memorabilia auction at Christies in London.
Covering everything from the 1960s to the present day, you can bid big for items like Paul Weller’s guitar, a Pink Floyd bass or a Led Zeppelin amplifier, not to mention clothes from the likes of Madonna and Elton John. But we like to be a little more realistic – and we’ve picked out two sound investments that aren’t going to break the bank.
Shown here is an original tour poster from the Sex Pistols-headlined Anarchy In The UK Tour (the Torquay show to be precise), along with a flyer for a Sex Pistols show at Eric’s in Liverpool. Both have estimates around the £400 mark, which sounds a lot – but you can see these going up and up as the years pass. Check out these and all the other lots at the link below.
Finding a decent vintage-style knitted tie is hard enough, but finding one made of silk and for a reasonable price is even harder. Not if you go to Debenhams it isn’t.
The department store has an exclusive (and low-priced) Duffer of St George range called St George by Duffer. And in that range are these pure woven silk knitted ties. Not just these available – there are other stripes combos as well as a plain grey.
The only downside might be the width, but at just £18 each, it might be something you can live with.
