APC classic duffle coat and MHL duffle jacket

Apc

Autumn is upon us, so it's time to think about a winter coat to keep out the cold and drizzle. If you're looking for something classic and stylish, both the APC classic duffle coat and MHL duffle jacket.

Starting with the APC coat (pictured above), it's a classic, fully-lined duffle with large fasteners, a hood and storm flaps, the whole thing made of a wool mix fabric. £420 will secure you one. The MHL duffle jacket (as the name suggests) is shorter, made of single layer melton wool and has both a hood and large wooden fasteners. That retails for £265 and is pictured over the page.

Of course, you can also opt for a real classic instead, the Gloverall Monty duffle coat, which was still standard issue to the British military in World War II. You should be able to find one of those for around £220.

BoConcept’s retro-styled Imola chair

Bochair

Looking for a stylish modern design with a retro twist? Look no further than the newly-introduced Imola chair from BoConcept.

Taking its design cues (according to Bo itself) from the 1950s, this Henrik Pedersen-designed easy chair is built around a moulded hard shell, which is then covered in a soft foam for comfort, finished off in a choice of fabric or leather, all supported by that brushed steel frame.

You can pick it up as a high-backed model or a low-slung seat, with prices between £1,599 and £1,699, depending on your choice of finish.

Archivio Storico Tris modernist table lamp

Tris

There seems to be a glut of stylish design reissues from the Archivio Storico stable right now, including this incredibly cool Tris table lamp.

You would probably bet your house on this being a modernist gem from 1930s Italy, but in actual fact, the lamp dates from 1950, offering up a chrome-plated brass frame, a glass 'bowl' that's been sandblasted and painted white on the inside, plus a lower diffuser in white frosted glass.

It stands around 43cm tall and this Fontana Arte reissue is on the market for £723.

For sale: John Lautner-designed Schaffer Residence in Glendale, California

Lautner1

If the recently-featured Rodriguez House wasn't quite your thing, maybe you'll appreciate another classic property from the same era – the John Lautner-designed Schaffer Residence in Glendale, California.

Designed by Lautner back in 1949 and apparently sold fully restored to its original late 40s glory, the Schaffer Residence,  located in a wooded valley at the foot of the Verdugo Mountains, is made of redwood, concrete and glass and very much open plan, bringing the surrounding nature into your home if you like. Indeed, with all that wood panelling, you'll think you were in the woods each and every morning.

BBC offers vintage Tomorrow’s World archive online

Tw

From 1965 through to 2003, the BBC gave us all a glimpse (rightly or wrongly) into the world of the future. That show was called Tomorrow's World and from today, you can re-live those predictions online, with the BBC uploading the best (and worst) clips for us all to enjoy again.

Which means we can see the first-ever show (life on Mars and flood defences), along with the home computer terminal (1967), artificial gardens (1968), a computerised school, the robot-run office and the Moog synthesiser (all 1969), the first cordless mobile phone from '79 and…well, just about anything else weird and wonderful you can think of, including a man speaking Morse Code to a computer. Yes, really.

For non-UK readers, not sure if this is viewable outside the BBC's native land, but give it a try – it's well worth the effort.
