Joe Colombo Elda armchair now available in the UK

Elda

A few months back, I bemoaned the fact that you couldn't buy arguably Joe Colombo's most famous creation – the Elda Chair – in the UK. Well, my plea seems to have been heard, with the chair now available in this country.

Which makes me very happy, although that's tempered considerably by the price. The Elda is the space age era in a seat, actually dating back to 1963, but best known for its appearances in sci-fi movies and TV shows of the early 70s – an episode of Space 1999 wasn't complete without one.

On the technical side, the swivel chair is made of reinforced ABS plastic, with an plush interior of contrasting leather. If life's been kind to you of late, you can pick one up for £3,518 – and re-live an era every time you sit in it.

Retro space travel posters by Steve Thomas

Planets

Nice take on the vintage travel poster by Steve Thomas, replacing distant shores with distant planets.

Take your pick from all the planets in the Solar System (except Earth of course) all with a distinctive 30s feel, not a million miles from the deco-style posters once seen in train stations.

All images are available in varying sizes and are printed using UV-resistant archival inks. Prices start at just $11.95, which is just over £8.

Silly Thing vintage camera tote bag

Sillybag

Slightly more high-end than a lot of the totes we show you, the Silly Thing vintage camera tote bag is certainly a stylish way to carry your kit.

New for spring/summer 2009, the bag (as you can see) offers up a design featuring an old school camera both front and bag, with some large text added to the front and the 'think silly' line on the back.

Finished off with a pair of sturdy black handles, you can pick up this hefty bag for just over £109 from Colette.

Designer vs high street: George Nelson Ball Clock and the Matalan Molecule Clock

Nelson_matalan

We've not done one of these for a while, but when we see two products so similar, it's hard to resist doing a comparison between the George Nelson Ball Clock (left) and the Matalan Molecule Clock (right).

Regular readers will know we have featured the Ball Clock previously, a mid-century classic from 1948, this distinctive design has been officially reissued by Vitra in a mix of lacquered wood and metal, with a high grade quartz clock keeping things ticking over. Expect to pay from around £143.

Adidas Vespa Blue trainers

Vespablue1

We don't know a great deal about the Adidas Vespa Blue trainers, aside from them appearing on the Colette website as part of its spring 2009 range.

Obviously a collaboration between Adidas and Vespa, the shoes (or should that be boots) have a blue suede upper with Adidas stripes and tongue logo mixing it with the Vespa logo near the heel, things finished off with a gum-like sole.

Not the result you might expect from two classic labels, but interesting nonetheless. Yours for 110 Euros. See another image over the turn.
