PGO brings Speedster II and Cevennes retro roadsters to UK

Speedster2

Yet more retro sports cars on the market, this time from French firm PGO, which has announced it is offering right-hand drive versions of its Speedster II and Cevennes retro roadsters to the UK market.

Both cars are effectively replicas of the Porsche 356 Speedster, with the Cevennes being a more ‘sporty’ version if that’s your thing. Each has a two-litre Peugeot engine, Peugeot chassis, option automatic gearbox and a 50s-style cockpit with leather upholstery, analogue dials and instruments, along with some modern-day additions, including CD player, air conditioning, electric windows and parking sensors.

If you want one, the UK dealer is Lifestyle Automotive Ltd in Sunninghill, Berkshire. No price available as yet.

Retro Retreat: Isle of Wight VW Camper Van holidays

Vw_isleofwight
We haven’t done a Retro Retreat for a while, but with summer approaching, we thought it was time to do something involving the great outdoors – like these Isle of Wight VW Camper Van holidays.

It’s your chance to tour round the idyllic Isle of Wight in your own time and in a 1970s VW Camper Van. It’s kitted out with everything you need for life on the move – cooker, fridge, sink, double bed and two pop top bunks, camping equipment, fresh linen, towels and a hamper of Isle of Wight products (including homemade cake) to start you off on your holiday.

The vans are fully insured and supplied with a full tank of petrol. And if you don’t want to take your own car (you can get a train over), Isle of Wight Campers will even pick you up with your van on arrival.

Tariffs start at £275 for the week (Monday to Friday) or a long weekend, rising depending on the season.

Zumreed VW Camper Van radios

Zumreed_vw_minibus

Novelty radios always impress us – and this VW Camper Van radio from Zumreed is the best we’ve seen for some time.

It’s an AM/FM radio, with the added bonus of looking like a vintage VW. There’s another hidden bonus too – it’s also got an LCD alarm clock on the rear. And you can use it as a speaker for your MP3 player via the headphone slot.

It measures around seven inches x three inches, comes in a choice of colours and is powered by mains, battery or USB. You can pick one up for the equivalent of £35 from Japanese online retailer Abide.

Ford to produce Bullitt-themed Mustang

Bullitt_mustang

I’m sure it isn’t going to look exactly like the 1968 Ford Mustang above, but Ford is producing a limited edition Ford Mustang Bullitt. Yes, you too can be Steve McQueen.

The standard Mustang is in production in the US, but this limited edition model will take that modern version and tweak it so it has more of the late 60s looks. Other changes include a souped-up engine, dark green paint job, 18-inch wheels, special badging, sports seats, logo the fuel cap, a unique gear lever and a seemingly endless number of performance tweaks.

That’s the good news, now here’s the bad. As far as I know, the Mustang isn’t available in Europe – and that goes for the Bullitt version too. There will be 7,000 available to the US market and 700 for Canada. No price as yet, but you imagine they’ll not be around for long, whatever the price point.

Becker Mexico – satellite navigation like a 1960s car stereo

Becker_mexico

The problem with satellite navigation systems (apart from them taking you the wrong way) is that they all have absolutely no style. That’s a criticism you can’t level at the Becker Mexico, which has just become available in the UK.

It’s based on a 1960s car stereo in looks, but in terms of functionality, it’s every bit 2007. First off, it offers satellite navigation in 34 countries in a variety of languages, along with traffic updates and display of the speed limit wherever you are. But that’s not all.
