Convert a modern-day BMW into a classic Mercedes-Benz

Bmw_classic

Here’s a solution to the ugliness of modern-day cars – take the workings of a modern-day BMW Z3 and convert it into a vintage Mercedes-Benz 190 SL sports car.

It’s the work of Japanese company Duesen Bayern, with the finished model going under the name Duesen Bayern Mystar and offering the best of both worlds – a modern-day engine with the looks of a real classic. No news on price or the service being offered outside Japan – if it is, we’ll let you know (and perhaps see you in the queue).

eBay Watch: Jaguar Mk II – 60s villain’s car for under £1,000

Jaguar_mk2
Watch UK crime flicks and TV series of the 60s and 70s and you’ll notice one motor being the vehicle of choice for the discerning villain – a Jaguar Mk II. Rumour has it that their rarity is down to the majority getting trashed by the entertainment industry! True or not, they’re rarely seen – so this one looks a bargain.

A mint one could cost you around £20,000 – this one is currently under £1,000. It’s a 3.4 model (so budget something for the petrol), seems fairly solid, has had plenty of money spent on its upkeep and a new paint job (British racing green).

There’s a reserve, so it’ll be interesting to see how cheaply this will go. If you’re interested in bidding, check out this classic Sweeney clip to see one in action.

Vespa scooter stationery range

Vespa_stationary

Once it was just the scooter, then came a clothing range and now Piaggio has launched a Vespa stationery range for the desk-bound scooterist.

It’s actually quite stylish, mostly with just a simple Vespa logo on the cover or an image of a Vespa scooter. The range includes a selection of notebooks and journals in various sizes and colours, with prices starting at around £9.

You can pick them up at the Conran Shop.

Chrysler PT Cruiser – good or bad?

Pt_cruiser

We’ve covered a number of retro cars in the past, but one we haven’t mentioned previously is the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

It’s a car that you either love for its 1930s-inspired (or indeed hot rod) styling or you hate for its bulk and its likeness to the dreaded people carrier. We actually quite like it. It’s been around since 2001, with a few updates along the way, now including a convertible version.

You could say it’s the sensible silly car – you’ll turn a few heads with the larger-than-life looks, but under the bonnet is a solid performer with the even more sensible option of a diesel engine, plenty of room and comfort, some retro styling on the dashboard and loads of boot room, including (oddly), a picnic shelf.

You can pick one up for around £17.000 new, but older versions can easily be picked up for £5,000 onwards. Good or bad? Have your say below.

Classic Cars: Lotus Elan S3 FHC

Lotus_elan

Looking for a sporty classic car? Check out this Lotus Elan LNK 120C. It’s no ordinary Lotus – this is the first-ever model baby Elan off the production line – shown off at the Motor Show of 1965 – and you can buy it.

It’s packed with unique features, including a rear compartment for golf clubs and has just undergone a 28 month total nut and bolt restoration to original factory specification by Lotus enthusiast and historian Nick Blunsden and has been in dehumidified storage ever since.

A gem of a classic, it’s available to buy for £29,995. Not cheap – but a worthy investment if you have some cash stashed away.

eBay Watch: Triumph Herald – almost like new

Triumph_herald
I’ve always had a soft spot for the Triumph Herald, even though everyone I’ve known that’s owned one has spent as much time pushing their vehicle as driving it. But they were cars with seriously aged engines – this Triumph Herald has done just 17,027 miles since new.

Bought in 1963 by the original owner, who clock up just 12,000 miles in 26 years, it was then passed down that person’s family, clocking up another 5,000 along the way. It looks great in two-tone white and grey, has a sunroof and the kind of vintage detailing money just can’t buy today.

Check out the site for more images or contact the seller for full details. It’s currently at £1,550.00 – which seems like something of a bargain.
