eBay watch: 1970s Prinztronic LED digital clock

Prinz

Big thanks to Andrew for sending us this rather interesting oddity on eBay – a Prinztronic LED digital clock.

What's particularly interesting in this item is the condition, listed as 'boxed and unused' from its original shelf date of 1979. Which means it's not got a scratch on it and works as intended from day one.

For your money, you get a clock very much 'of its era', with that LED display, auto brightness control, snozze, finger touch controls and of course, packaging and instructions. Price? Right now just £1.99.

eBay watch: 1970s Jerger space age alarm clock

Jerger

As regular readers might have noticed, we're rather taken with vintage alarm clocks, especially big and bold designs from the 1970s. Like this Jerger alarm clock for example.

German-made and of course, dating back to the 70s, the clock is in full working order (so good for getitng you out of your bed), with the maker's name displayed clearly in the middle of those stylised 70s numbers, just above the chunky hands.

The colour scheme os a very 'of the era' orange and black and the price right now is just 99 pence. A bargain.

eBay watch: Columbia 1960s stereogram

Stereogram

Type in the words radiogram or stereogram into the eBay search box and you'll be greeted with numerous vintage stereo systems built into sideboard-like wooden cases. They were the norm for years, but fell out of favour as audio systems became smaller and more portable. Which inevitably means there are plenty around today – like this Columbia 1960s stereogram.

Like the majority of these things, the stereogram plays your vinyl and offers access to numerous bands of radio. If that's not enough, it doubles up as a vintage-style sideboard, offering storage too, just like a sideboard would.

The one here 'could probably do with a new needle' and 'some TLC', but is said to be in full working order aside from that. It's up for just £2. If you don't like the look of this one, check out the many other models also for sale on the auction site – and all for similarly small amounts of cash.

eBay watch: 1970s Braun 4780 wall clock

Braun

Love the modernist looks, but the Braun 4780 wall clock doesn't date back to the original modernist era, instead it dates from the 1970s.

But it is still a very striking design, especially if you love that utilitarian look. The clock is actually plastic, burgundy for the frame, cream for the face and black for the hands (as well as the numbers). It still features the original Braun label and works off a single AA battery.

Not too expensive either, the auction price is currently £21.

eBay watch: 1970s Philips 22GF113 Playsound portable record player

Philips

As the recent Record Store Day showed, there's still a demand for vinyl, which also means a demand for players. Especially when they look as good as this Philips 22GF113 Playsound portable record player.

Dating back to the 1970s (you probably guessed that bit), it's a classic portable record player, offering battery or mains playback, three speeds (33, 45 or 78) and able to fold up as a case with integrated handle or fold out to playback your slabs of plastic.

The one here is described as being in 'very good above-average condition', with a rare green lid contrasting the white body. £34.99 is the current top bid.

Coast seaside poster charity auction

Boscombe

Some new takes on the classic twentieth-century travel poster as seven contemporary artists were asked to design a seaside poster to be auctioned off for charity

Several Retro To Go favourites were among the artists asked to depict their favourite resort: Barbara Hulanicki extols the virtues of Brighton, Angie Lewin goes for Salthouse in Norfolk while Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway promote the merits of Boscombe, as pictured above. Although the style of 1930s British travel posters were an obvious starting point,  each artist has tackled the brief in their own distinctive way.

The auction started this morning (Thursday) on Ebay and concludes on the 16 May at 9pm. All proceeds raised go to Marine Conservation Society.
