eBay watch: Hillebrand 1970s desk lamp

Hillebrand

I don't know a great deal about this lamp and the seller isn't giving much away – but thankfully a picture can paint a thousand words when it comes to this Hillebrand desk lamp.

Described as being circa 1970, it actually has modernist undertones – very much about the form and function. In terms of specifics, a metal base mixes it with a chrome head and a flexible arm, offering light where you want it on your desk.

It's sold out of Germany and is up on a 'Buy It Now' for £99 or a best offer. If you can get it a little cheaper, the lamp could offer up a stylish bargain.

eBay watch: 1950s Dieter Rams-designed Braun PA 2 projector

Braun_proj

I make no apologies for picking out so much Dieter Rams from eBay – aside from it looking good, the designer's work has become more collectable year-on-year, which makes it a good investment if you can pick it up at the right price. The price of this Dieter Rams-designed Braun PA 2 projector for example.

Designed in 1957, it's an old school slide projector in grey with a touch of red and black, complete with case and original Braun slide cases. You might have seen it in the MoMA or indeed, the recent Dieter Rams exhibition in London – one similar has been on display in both places.

It's working and described as being in 'excellent cosmetic state', which makes the 99 pence price tag a steal. Still some days left though, but definitely one to watch.

Ebay watch: John Cooper 30th Anniversary Mini

Mini

Here's something that could prove a real steal on eBay – this John Cooper 30th Anniversary Mini, dating back to 1990.

The car is numbered (141), finished in British racing green and has relatively low mileage of 57,000. Indeed, the current owner has done just 200 miles on the last eight years. It also packs a kit courtesy of Jan Odor of Janspeed engineering that boosts the BHP and torque – see the listings for the technical side of that.

Described as being in 'excellent condition', the car is currently on eBay at £500. For a collector's car in good nick, that looks like one to watch.

eBay watch: Bruksbo Scala 1960s LP case by Rolf Hesland

Lpcase

There's more than a touch of the Merrow Associates about this Bruksbo Scala design, which is currently up for auction on eBay.

That's purely by chance, with this 1960s piece by Rolf Hesland actually being a Scandinavian design, specifically out of Norway. Although it looks and functions as a magazine rack if you so wish, the Scala is unsually designed as an LP case, able to hold up to 50 12-inch records within six compartments.

Whatever you choose to use it for, that rosewood veneer will certainly add a touch of style to the room. Sitting on four original Danish made chrome castors with fully functional black plastic wheels, it has some light damage to the woodwork, but nothing major. £125 wil probably secure it, with no bids as yet at that starting price.

eBay watch: 1970s JVC Videosphere TV

Videosphere

I suspect it's not had much interest as yet because of the digital switchover, but purely for reasons of design, the JVC Videosphere TV is worth a look.

To be honest, a digital box and it might live again (although you'll probably want to check that), but even if it doesn't, this is a stunner. The one here is in very good, original condition, even if age has led to a touch of yellowing of that ABS finish. It's even got both the base and hanging chain.

Price? As I write, it is at just £1. A steal for a design classic.

eBay watch: Philips 303 UFO portable record player by Patrice Dupont – with original box

Dupont

We have featured one of these before, but this Philips 303 UFO portable record player by Patrice Dupont is something special – it still has its original packaging.

This model dates back to the 1970s (as that space age look might give away) and comes with an iconic pedigree, having featured in the sought-after L'utopie Du Tout Plastique book/catalogue. But this is perhaps the finest example we've seen, described as 'almost new' in condition and with that carry case, which you'll have to look far and wide to find again.

Battery/mains-powered and good to play 33, 45 and 78 records, it's currently on eBay for £62, which is something of a steal. One to watch for sure.
