Space Age Talking Alarm Clock

Spaceageclock
Very retro looks, but very modern at the same time is this Space Age Talking Alarm Clock.

The looks are very 60s/70s – ideal for your space age pad. However, it’s not just a nostalgia piece, it’s got a modern digital display and it speaks the time (if you hit it on the top) as well as offering an hourly vocal reminder of the time if you want it. And you get a choice of alarms too – talking, as well as a cuckoo, a cockerel and a "mystery" sound.

Available now in retro orange, along with black and white, you can pick it up for around £20.

Mskyo granny-style trolley speakers

Granny_speaker
I love unusual design, but Mskyo is the oddest thing I’ve encountered in ages.

Essentially it’s one of those trolleys that older women drag around the shops, complete with wheels, handle and tartan cloth finish. Except this one is a little different – it’s a powerful sound system, not unlike the good old ghetto blaster.

Made by German design company Classen and Partner, there’s no details of price as yet, just a cryptic "get in touch" message if you’re interested. Or indeed, if your granny is interested in livening up her trip to the shops.

Plus Deck – a cassette deck for your PC

Plusdeck

Got a pile of cassettes cluttering up a corner of your home? Then you’re the target market for the Plus Deck – a cassette deck that slots into your PC.

Yes, just like a CD drive, but using technology from the past. But it also makes your cassettes a bit more useful in the modern world. Just slip in one of your old cassettes and follow the instructions to play it or convert the tracks to MP3. And once they’re transferred to MP3, you can bin those old plastic tapes.

The deck fits easily into your PC – but it is PC only (no good for Mac users). Available now, you can pick it up for £99.95.

Pulp fiction iPod case

Pulp_ipod
Once more, we’re dealing with the blandness of the iPod, this time dressing it up with a vintage book sleeve.

The Pulp fiction iPod case (nothing to do with the film) by Bennie and Olive dresses up your portable player in a distinctive piece of lost fiction. Scavengers In Space is just one example of the five on offer. The player just slips inside. And as a nice additional touch, there’s a library card and slot to enter your name.

The covers are actually cloth (rather than card) and have a vinyl interior. Available for the iPod and iPod video, you can pick one up for $69 (around £36).

JukeDock – retro iPod sound system

Jukedock
Another gadget to give your very modern iPod the retro treatment – the iPod JukeDock.

Reminiscent of a jukebox from the 1950s, the JukeDock connects to your stereo or TV, giving you the option of playing your tunes through a larger sound system. It also charges your player while it’s docked. You can even control your iPod with remote from your stereo system. And just to add some extra cheese, you’ll even get a few coloured lights courtesy of the JukeDock.

Available online, you can pick one up in black or white for $99.99 (which is just over £50).
