1950s Fashion Prints by Marnie Fogg

1950s print

Released today is Marnie Fogg's new book on 1950s Fashion Prints. Marnie Fogg is the author behind both the vintage handbags book and the one about Sixties fashion boutiques, while this volume is the sister volume to her book on 1960s fashion print.

It's intended to act as a source of inspiration for design students and practitioners and its 192 pages are jammed full of designs from the key figures of the time such as Lucienne Day and Robert Stewart, as well as key companies such as Marimekko. The designs are grouped thematically by topics that influenced the designs of the period such as the influence of artists on fabric designs or novelty patterns. There's plenty on its pages to inspire a Fifties design enthusiast as well as appeal to those with a more expert interest.

Reasonably priced too. You can buy it for £12.99 from Amazon

Betty Boyns vintage inspired stationery

Betty boyns

Betty Boyns is a relatively new company creating vintage inspired stationery, perfect for putting the finishing touch to a gift.

Based in Cornwall, their designs take their influence from 'retro lifestyles', such as in the Night Out wrapping paper shown above which illustrates a perfectly poised 50s style woman in a suitably period room. The Chin Chin and Cha Cha designs show scenes with a similar feel. They also produce some designs without people in them, including some retro floral patterns.

At the moment, the range includes wrapping paper, cards and gift tags but will be later expanded to include fabrics.

Prices start at 50p for a gift tag while the wrapping paper costs £1.50 for a sheet.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury-style oak sewing box

Sew1

With craft and 'make do and mend' all the rage right now, this midcentury-style oak sewing box could well be a sought-after item. Especially at this price.

Love the design, those curves and the angled legs, formed in oak and opening out into a number of compartments. See over the page for that, it's quite impressive.

According to the seller, the box is in 'good condition', with some age-related scratches and marks, but it is structurally sound. Price? As I right, it's at 99 pence. One to keep an eye on.

Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock by George Nelson

Butterflies

The last of the three new George Nelson clock reissues is also the biggest, both in size and in price – the Vitra Flock of Butterflies clock.

Unlike the other two clocks, this is a 1950s design (1955), a metallic geometric frame with a lacquered wood centre, the whole thing a rather large 61cm diameter.

Just over £417 secures you one.
