Tropical Floral Underwear from Topshop

Tropical topshop

When thinking of pre-1960s lingerie options, it's often the burlesque inspired choices we first think of. Thankfully there are plenty of options for every day practicality available, without compromising on attractiveness.

This Floral Tropical Lingerie Set from Topshop taps into a 50s-style tropical theme, with a bright colour palette that's perfectly chosen. The floral pattern is a vintage-inspired staple, treading the line between mainstream fifties fashion and rockabilly-inspired Hula girls. The bra's longline shape makes up for a lack of bullet cups, combined with mini knickers that make this almost tempting as a beach ensemble instead.

Available now from Topshop, the set is sold as separates totalling £22.

Nautical Button Front Shorts from Matalan

Matalanshort

Though the current weather may seem too good to be true, the warmer months are certainly around the corner, broadening the possibilities for our wardrobes. Shorts are a great choice for retro looks when done with flair, like this Nautical pair from Matalan.

With a surprising eye for fifties detail from the budget retailer, these matelot-fronted shorts hit the mark with a 50s version of sailor-inspired style. A wide-legged cut with turn ups means they capture the tailored formality of retro style, while a bright shade of red adds some rockabilly-inspired vampish appeal.

Get them now from Matalan for just £8.

Gillian Kyle Creamola Foam bag

Creamola_Foam

If you are Scottish and of a certain age, you are likely to recognise the design Gillian Kyle has used on her new bag, featuring the packaging for the Creamola Foam drink.

For those less in the know, Creamola foam was a soft drink manufactured, as it says on the bag, in the form of soluble crystals. It was made in Glasgow and sold from the fifties until 1998 when Nestlé ceased production of the drink. If you're eager to try some, there's apparently now an independent company who manufacture a similar drink but until you track them down, this bag is a tasty substitute. The charming packaging of the crystals has been foil printed in fuchsia onto a plain cotton tote.

If you've got a sweet tooth for all things Scottish, Kyle was the artist behind the Tunnock's Tea Cake tote bag we featured a little while back.

You can get the back for £17.50.

eBay watch: Vintage Twiggy head clothes hangers

Twiggyhead

We're quoting the seller's description of the product even though we're not convinced it's official gear, but there's no denying that the vintage Twiggy head clothes hangers on eBay right now have a look of the hip 60s model turned M&S saleswoman.

Two of these hangers are currently on eBay, along with another similar design from the same seller, all 'found on a estate sale in Nuremberg Germany' and likely to date from the 60s or possibly early 70s.

Some wear through age as you would expect on these plastic hangers, but right now, cheap enough. £3.22 each to be precise as a starting price, although you'll have to filter in postage from Germany too.
