Julie Fortenberry retro-styled children’s art at L’Affiche Moderne

Fort2

More retro-styled artwork available at the L'Affiche Moderne online gallery – this time the child-friendly art of Julie Fortenberry.

We don' know much about the artist, aside from her being from New York and being inspired by classic children's books. Although we think this is more like those small pictures you used to find in house in the 50s and 60s (and often see in house clearance places in the modern era).

But there's no denying that they're bold, colourful and have a definite charm. Reasonably priced too – depending on your choice of size, prices start at just 20 Euros. See another image over the page.

Heal’s midcentury-style Contour oak sideboard by Samuel Chan

Contour

The new Heal's range is slowly trickling in, with the new Heal's ReDiscovers collection including this very stylish Contour oak sideboard by Samuel Chan.

Very much inspired by midcentury design, it has those wood-turned 'trumpet legs', plenty of curves, a timeless look and a real attention to detail – super-thin 10mm sections and solid oak cross-band lipping are applied entirely by hand for example. Two doors hide storage, while two drawers offer room for your bits and pieces.

The Contour oak sideboard sells for £1,495 and if you like the look, there's also an AV unit, coffee table and console table with the same look. You can see an image of the console table over the page. All are available to order from Heal's right now.

Paisley Tunic from Dorothy Perkins

Tunic

Paisley prints are a retro design choice that has never quite gone away, and when done with flair they can be an irresistable choice. This Paisley Tunic from Dorothy Perkins utilises the sixties and seventies era design to great effect, creating a piece that's almost faultless.

The cut of the tunic works in tandem with the print's retro appeal, taking a simple shift dress shape with a high, wide neck and capped sleeves. The sixties-look silhouette is finished with a high waistline and mini-length hem. Finished in bright colours, the palette conjures a mid-sixties vibe that treads the line of psychedelia with subtlety.

Get it online or in stores from Dorothy Perkins for £30.

Solitaire’s classic biscuit coasters

Coaster_biscuit_jammy

If the digit cake moulds we showed you earlier today have helped you work up a hunger, why not pause and stop for tea and a snack? If you need a further incentive, why not take a look at these coasters from Solitaire, featuring some of Britain's favourite biscuits?

They're similar in style to their vintage plate place mats, featured last year, with appetising designs of jammie dodgers, chocolate creams and rich tea biscuits hand-printed onto cotton.

Two coasters of each biscuit are included in the sets of six. Each set costs £16.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s plays across UK cinemas on Valentine’s Day

Breakfasttiffanys

Looking for somewhere to take the love of your life this Valentine's Day? You could take he or she to the cinema, taking in a one-day only showing of the 60s classic Breakfast At Tiffany's, which is hitting the big screen nationwide, courtesy of the BFI.

Directed by Blake Edwards and starring George Peppard, Patricia Neal and of course, Audrey Hepburn in her iconic role as Holly Golightly, it's the classic tale of two 'bohemians' falling in love against a Manhattan backdrop – Peppard playing aspiring writer Paul Varjak, Hepburn the party girl with a hidden past.

Want to know where it's playing? Check out over the page for the full breakdown – or if you don't fancy going out, you could always buy yourself a DVD copy for under a fiver.

Digit cake moulds from Suck UK

Digitcakenew2010

You may remember Suck UK's Salt and Pepper 'Bots from last year. Well, they've come up with a new design also inspired by retro technology: digit cake moulds. There are seven moulds in a set and, when you put the shapes together, you can form 70s/80s digital style numbers or letters (though you could argue they're not too dissimilar to the shapes in the net and ball rug featured yesterday either).

And though they are retro in their look, the baking methods are more contemporary. The moulds are made from silicone which means they are microwaveable. I've yet to test how this affects the taste of the cake, but it does inspire some nice packaging in the shape of old-fashioned looking microwave.

A set costs £10.
