Digit cake moulds from Suck UK

Digitcakenew2010

You may remember Suck UK's Salt and Pepper 'Bots from last year. Well, they've come up with a new design also inspired by retro technology: digit cake moulds. There are seven moulds in a set and, when you put the shapes together, you can form 70s/80s digital style numbers or letters (though you could argue they're not too dissimilar to the shapes in the net and ball rug featured yesterday either).

And though they are retro in their look, the baking methods are more contemporary. The moulds are made from silicone which means they are microwaveable. I've yet to test how this affects the taste of the cake, but it does inspire some nice packaging in the shape of old-fashioned looking microwave.

A set costs £10.

Smite by Vehiconomics – the bubble car returns as an eco vehicle

Smits2

No longer a niche car for the eccentric collector, the bubble car looks like it is coming back under the less-than-catchy name of the Vehiconomics Smite.

Currently being touted as a concept car, the Swedish-made Smite is based (in looks) on the classic Messerschmitt KR200, produced between the mid-50s and 1960s and now much sought after collector's piece. But this is no relic – it's a modern eco-based take on the bubble car, addressing the need for a light, energy-efficient car in the modern world.

Limited edition Fiat 500 Pink now available to order

Fiat_pink

If you thought the Fiat 500 was running out of steam, think again – the retro-style mini motor is set to be offered in a number of limited edition styles this year, kicking off with the Fiat 500 Pink, which as you might have gussed, adds pink to the colour selection, along with a few added extras.

In a nice act of symmetry, Fiat is offering up 500 Fiat 500s in pink, with detailing including a contrast black interior, leather gear knob, sun roof, side rubbing strip with 500 badge, pink key cover and special carpet mats. There's also the eco-friendly start/stop system, cutting the engine automatically when traffic brings your pink friend to a halt, restarting when traffic moves once more. Clever stuff.

If you want to get yourself in the queue for one, the Fiat 500 Pink will set you back slightly more than the average model, selling for £11,700.

Vaughn Topper Hairpiece by Fred Flare

Vaughn

Hats and hairpieces are something of a dying art in mainstream womens fashion, but they're always an easy fast track to retro style. This Vaughn Topper by Fred Flare is an easy to wear choice that will go with almost everything.

Taking a hint of forties style, the plain woven black material means the piece isn't too overstated for most occasions. Worn best with a vintage up-do, the tapered shape and oversized bow are the perfect details to give this a true vintage look.

With an elastic strap or alternative hair comb included, it costs $42 from Fred Flare online.

Raul Jacket by Diane von Furstenberg

Dvraul

Diane Von Furstenberg is one of few big name designers who has never forgotten the inspirations of her original collections in the 1960s, making her something of a favourite of ours. This Raul Jacket is one of her more outlandish pieces from the new Spring/Summer collection, but still retains some of that retro appeal.

The coat's military influences combine with a bright coloured stripe pattern to create a daring sixties-inspired piece. The double breasted buttons and simple trench structure carry the print well, creating a head-turner that avoids looking tacky.

It's available online in the UK from Matches Fashion for £518.
