Silence + Noise Ponte Faux Leather Dress

Black leather

The eighties had many fashion trends that are unmistakeable, but the more mainstream of the decade's styles was most famous for its use of sex appeal. The body-conscious looks are having a revival, and they're not for the faint of heart.

This Silence + Noise dress combines the raunch factor of eighties fashion with another classic element – leather. With an update thanks to fabric side panels for improved fit, the addition of details like spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline finish it off with flair.

TFNC Ditsy Layered Sleeve Shirt Dress

Ditsy shirt dress
Ditsy prints were big business last year for the fashion crowd, but luckily for retro devotees they don't appear to be going away any time soon. An easy way to get a folky seventies style, this TFNC Ditsy Print Shirt Dress combines the print with a great cut.

The lightweight cotton provides a floaty, loose folk feel, while a great cut keeps this style feminine. Bell sleeves and a longline skirt falling from a high cinched waist, this is an easy to wear piece as a top or more daring dress, and a fast way to seventies summer style.

Get it online from ASOS for £35.

For sale: 1960s-designed Lelant house in St. Ives, Cornwall

Lelant1

A modern(ist) house in a rural setting just outside St. Ives, this Edward Paynter-designed Lelant house could be the perefct house if you fancy a move to the country – and if you have the money to buy it.

Paynter designed the house for himself in the late 60s to make the most of the local views and according to the house details, has been 'sympathetically maintained to a high standard by the current owner', which is always a good thing. Sat on a half acre plot, the house has a distincive design that incorporates a first floor sun terrace and floor-to-ceiling glazing in the principal rooms, along with an L-shaped living area, a double height section and a concrete-poured fireplace. As you would expect from a top-end architect, the detailing and working materials are second to none, including slate floors, timber ceilings.

Fotoburst frame by Umbra

Fotoburst

Referencing those sunburst designs from the 1950s to the 1970s is this fotoburst frame by Umbra. While the instantly recognisable metallic 'rays' are in place, the centre replaces the traditional clock face or mirror with a photo frame.

This contemporary play on a classic design is the work of Michelle Ivankovic. The frame is double sided and each holds two 3 x 4cm photos. A set of three costs £18 making it a reasonable price to pay for an alternative way to display your photographs.
