Silk Maxi Dress by Electricity in the Sale

Electricity

The end of the summer season means many of the best dresses of the year are now going on sale, so it's a perfect opportunity to stock up on retro wardrobe fillers. This Silk Maxi Dress by Electricity is a great piece of seventies folk style.

Handmade in Manchester, the dress features a vintage look paisley print that doesn't suffer from looking clichéd thanks to a subtle colour palette. The feminine neckline and figure flattering cut mean this doesn't swamp the figure, and provides the perfect late hippy style that's easy to wear.

Skate Study House limited edition Launch of the Cool mid-century range

Skate_1

We have featured Skate Study House previously, a company that mixes a love of skateboarding with a love of Eames and related mid-century design. The result? Handmade Eames-style classics made from skateboard parts, like the Launch of the Cool collection.

This is the affordable range from Skate Study House (compared to the Lounge Chair, which retailed for well in excess of £2,000), three design gems available for a combined price of $300. The products are the Astro Clock, a take on the 1948 George Nelson Ball Clock, the Hang Up (a take on the Eames' 1953 Hang It All) and the Nova Lamp, a take on…well, we're not sure on this one, can you spot what it takes off?

All are made to order, using recycled decks and parts plus some custom bits and pieces, guaranteeing you something unique in your home. If you don't want all of them, individual prices are $100 for the Astro, $100 for the Hang Up and $150 for the lamp. We suspect they'll not be around for long, so move quickly if you want them. And check out an image of the Hang Up over the page.

Joseph Joseph Scribble platter and dip

Joseph joseph dip

If you are planning a retro style soiree, this Joseph Joseph Scribble Platter and dip scribble might be of use. The colours of brown and orange set the scene, but it's the illustrations of food on the platter that really appeal. As well as crisps and carrot batons, it features the classic 70s and 80s party snack of cheese and pineapple on sticks.

Consultants 3 Fish in a Tree designed the set for Joseph Joseph and, for £22, it certainly makes a change from serving the snacks stuck in half an orange or a foil wrapped potato such as was the style at my house!

Las Vegas Shower Curtain

Las-vegas-shower-curtains

This Las Vegas shower curtain is another one in the long lines of products and artwork to
draw inspiration from Betty Willis' 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' sign.
Willis never copyrighted her design for the sign, which was erected in 1959,
contributing something to the ubiquity of it on souvenirs and its use by people
trying to evoke the glamour of the period.

How glamorous a shower curtain can ever be is up for debate but
the sign looks pretty stylish as a black and white image. It's one of several
shower curtain designs being stocked at Rockett St George which is also selling
images from Paris, Venice, London and Brooklyn. Each curtain costs
£30.

Homebase Mayfair chair And footstool – Barcelona chair on a budget

Mayfair

I've just checked and you know what? We've never featured the original 1929 Barcelona chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Needless to say, it's a design classic with a price to match, retailing for well over £3,000 at any authorised retailer. Not got the money? Well, you could opt for the Homebase Mayfair chair And footstool.

This isn't one of those cheap copies, the design of the Mayfair has enough subtle changes in shape to avoid any legal issues, a slightly taller, more upright shape and not quite the same detailing for the cushion work. But it does offer the look for a lot less cash.

For your money, you get both the seat and footstool, with both upholstered in 'leather effect' and say on a chrome base. There's also a spot of self-assembly required too – we suspect that's not the case with a Knoll original either. But at £249.99, it's in the realms of affordable for all of us – and let's be honest, most of your friends just might presume it's the real deal anyway.
