Mibo St Merryn Shade

St%20Merryn

New designs from Madeleine Rogers, better known as Mibo, are always welcome here and the new St Merryn Shade is no exception.

Like most of the Mibo designs, it has a decidedly retro look to it. In this case, it ventures somewhat into shabby chic territory with a blue and cream striped background featuring a red floral pattern. The shade measures 20cm in diameter and can be bought on its own for £29.25 or combined with a ceramic base for £55.50.

Buy online directly from Mibo.

Gio Ponti Pirellone 1960s floor lamp for Fontana Arte

Gio1

A lesser-known 60s design that still looks incredibly futuristic in the modern era – the Gio Ponti Pirellone floor lamp for Fontana Arte.

Like a huge strip of light, this 1967 design has a frame of satin nickel-plated brass, with diffusers in pressed and curved glass for a 'double light' effect. You can also dim the light to your needs, should you want to save on the electricity or just want something a little more subtle.

Check out over the page for an image of the lamp in a regular home, if you want one, it retails for £1,605.

Bauhaus Mobile

Bau

The Bauhaus mobile has been designed in collaboration with the Bauhaus Museum.

Mobiles are normally reserved for nurseries, but with this one I’m not too sure that infants are its target audience. Certainly youngsters will be attracted to its bright primary colours and its simple shapes, but they will perhaps fail to appreciate their significance to the Bauhaus style.

It is available to buy from the National Building Museum shop, priced $84.

eBay watch: Dieter Rams-designed Braun SK55 radio/record player

Sk55

We mentioned last week that the Design Museum has announced a major Dieter Rams exhibition in London from November this year, no doubt showing off all the major designs Rams creating for Braun, which will certainly include the Braun SK55 radio/record player, which you can own right now if you bid for the one above on eBay.

It's a classic design from Rams and Hans Gugelot, dating back to 1956 and known affectionately as 'Snow White's coffin' for reasons probably evident from the picture above. It's described as being in 'very nice original condition' and 'full working order', which means you can take in radio over three bands and vinyl over three speeds, throwing on some stylish modernist design for your living room too.

Check out the images on the site for a close-up look, then check your bank balance, it's up on a 'Buy It Now' for £922.38 – although the seller will take an offer.

Porsche introduces retro-styled 911 Sport Classic

911_1

Unlikely to be sold at 1970s pricing, Porsche has unveiled the 911 Sport Classic, which harks back to that era, whilst at the same time keeping the best of the modern world.

In terms of retro features, the Porsche 911 Sport Classic comes with a 'ducktail' rear spoiler, based on the one previously seen on the iconic 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, along with  some old school racing stripes, the return of the 19-inch alloy wheels and a brown leather interior that screams the 1970s (you can check that out over the page).

But this is still a modern sports car, complete with a 3.8-litre ‘boxer’ engine that can hit a top speed of 187mph, doing 0 – 60mph in just 4.6 seconds. No news on price, but we expect that to be up there with the rest of the Porsche range – and probably beyond.
