Vitra Charles & Ray Eames Plywood Elephant

Eames_elephant
Charles Eames would have been 100 this year. And to celebrate this milestone, Vitra is re-producing one of Charles & Ray Eames most interesting designs – the Plywood Elephant.

Interesting because of how it’s made. They developed their method of moulding plywood into three-dimensional shapes in the early 40s – and the elephant (produced in 1945) was the most difficult of the designs produced by this method, because of the number of tight angles and curves involved.

Vitra’s anniversary Plywood Elephant  is strictly limited to 1000 pieces, each being numbered and available in two different finishes – natural maple or red stained maple. Both identical in form to the originals.

No price as yet – check the Vitra site nearer release date.

Karhu Originals shoe bag

Karhu_bag
We’re big fans of Karhu Originals – because unlike some companies (*cough* Puma), they just pull out their best designs straight from the archives, reproducing them in the factories they made "back in the day".

And that includes this Karhu Originals shoe bag. It was originally a golf shoe bag from the 1980s, but is now back with a range of suggested uses by the company – including a laptop bag (enough space for a 12-inch Mac apparently).

The bag’s got an adjustable strap and is sized at 25 x 32 x 12cm. it retails for 49 Euros online.

Trash Chic retro bin liners

Retro_binliners
I don’t know about you, but I don’t give much of a thought to the bin liners in my home – apart from when I run short of them. But they can be a style statement – especially if you buy these Trash Chic retro bin liners from Firebox.

Yes, you can impress the neighbours (and indeed the bin men) on bin day by flashing your designer rubbish. And if you use them indoors, they can even add a splash of colour to your kitchen.  There are five different designs to choose from, all with a vintage influence and all a million miles away from the boring black you currently use.

The 50 x 60cm bags are available for pre-order now, priced at £9.95 for eight packs (containing a total of 80 bags).

Tom Dixon wallpaper for Cole & Son

Cole_dixon
We have featured Tom Dixon previously – in particular, his rather smart copper light shades. Now he’s turning his hand to wallpaper – with a definite retro feel.

The Tom Dixon wallpaper has been designed for high-end wallpaper company Cole & Son. The actual design is called Link (for reasons that are pretty self-explanatory) and offers you the chance to create the bright and bold walls you might commonly associated with interior design from the 1970s.

Four shades available, each retailing for £45 per roll. If you want more convincing, you can request a sample of your chosen paper online.
