Fred Perry cycling shirt

Fp_cycling
Despite looking suspiciously like Coventry City’s home kit from the late 1970s, this take on the cycling shirt from Fred Perry is still quite an eye-catching top.

This is an Italian-made 100% cotton cycling shirt, in sky blue with dark blue and white trim. There’s also a zip-up round neck collar with Fred Perry laurel wreath embroided on the chest

Available from Hip in Leeds, priced at £85.

All the cloths are re-issues of original 1920s and 30s cut moquette designs, mainly for use with upholstery, but are also good for curtain making, wall covering or screen making. And if you don’t know a good furniture-maker, the company will be launching a range of Art Deco chairs and sofas that be upholstered with the fabric of your choice.

Delivery time is six weeks and all stock is limited – see the website for the full range.

Tovolo Splash retro bottle openers

Bottleopener
Part practical item, part retro design – it’s the Tovolo Splash retro bottle opener.

The bottle openers are magnetic, which is good for three reasons. Firstly, they’ll stick to your fridge or other metallic surface, secondly, the same strong magnets pull off the bottle tops effortlessly and finally, those bottle tops stick to the opener – rather than flying off in a random direction.

And of course, there’s the retro floral design, which is available in pink, blue, red, purple and green. You can pick one up now, priced from around £14.95 each.

Retro Retreat: Hotel Borg in Reykjavik

Hotelborg

Until the Midland Hotel in Morecambe is restored, the best place to find some Art Deco glamour is the Hotel Borg in Reykjavik, Iceland, which re-opens in May, back to its former glory.

After a long (and costly) renovation, all 56 rooms are back to their Art Deco best, combining period pieces, custom-made furnishing and modern amenities you perhaps wouldn’t expect – like flat-screen TVs and high-speed internet.
