Retro Rooms: Simon Donald

Simon

Our shout out for some Retro Rooms got an instant response, including this rather tasty image from Simon Donald.

This is the kitchen from Simon's former house, which was originally fitted in Newcastle on Tyne in 1962 by Danitymaid of Tipton. Rather than doing the usual thing of ripping it out and replacing with something faceless from a DIY warehouse, Simon renovated it back in the 1990s, keeping everything as original as possible. The effort, as you can see from the photo, was well worth it.

Many thanks to Simon for sending it in and if you've got a Retro Room (or Rooms) you want featuring on the site, get in touch with us.

Retro Rooms: Tony Strange

Tony1

After a brief detour to Finland, our Retro Rooms feature is back in the UK – London to be precise, for the room of Tony Strange.

Tony says he has a 'retro house' rather than a retro room, but we're just being let in on the living room for now. Plenty of space age design packing the place – and we're loving that round TV too.

See over for more photos and once again, if you want to show off your house or a single room, just get in touch.

Retro Rooms: Robert Ahlskog

Robert1

Yes, it's the return of the Retro Rooms feature – and first up in our re-launched segment is Robert Ahlskog from Vaasa, Finland.

According to Robert: 'My interest in retro started one year ago, when I bought a copy of the ball chair by Eero Arnio. Then I got the idea of making an retro corner in our living room. Now, one year later almost the whole living room is in retro style'.

'The Ball Chair, Artichoke lamp, Le Klint lamps and the floor lamp by Poul Henningsen are all 'inspired by'. That's the great thing with the internet…you can order everything online, even here in the cold north. The table in the living room is made from two wall shelves and the chic white and black wallpaper is from wallpaperfromthe70s.com. The Double Bubble table lamp by Aarnio is one of his recent designs, but I think it looks so retro.'

Big thanks to Robert and if you want your room featured, fire over some images and a few words, we'll make your room famous! See over for more images.

Retro Rooms: Fred de Groot

Fred3 Holland is our next stop for our Retro Rooms feature and the home of Fred de Groot.

We don’t know much about Fred and his home in Sneek (yes, there is such a place), but we do know he is an avid collector of classic/vintage design – and these photos (see over onto the next page for more) are our evidence.

If you have any photos of your home, your collection or a single room, we always like to hear from you. Contact us at the address on this page with your photos and details and we will get them online as soon as we can.
