We didn’t actually know of this place until the newsletter of a well-known travel company dropped into our inbox. Which means we are now aware of the existence of the midcentury-inspired 1950s Hotel La Residence du Vieux Port in Marseille, France.

La Residence du Vieux-Port is described as a ‘landmark building’ overlooking Marseille’s port, designed by André-Jacques Dunoyer de Segonzac back in 1954. However, it has recently revamped and is now a four-star hotel offering ‘retro-inspired style’ along with the sweeping views of the harbour and the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde in the distance.

The images of the interior certainly backs that up, a modern makeover with an array of midcentury design scattered around the clean finishes of the updated 1950s building.

If that appeals, Secret Escapes has a deal on for the place right now, with rooms from £102 per room and night with breakfast included. Availability is pretty much from now onwards.
