“Happle” Apple-Shaped Container

Happles_01_500
Happle
is an apple-shaped container reminiscent of the bold fruit designs of Enzo Mari.

Perhaps the most obvious use for the Happle is as an ice bucket, making a nice change from the usual pineapple shape, but the airtight lid means it could be used to store other food products too, such as biscuits. The lid can be used separately upturned as a bowl. The containers are available in two sizes, 18cm or 30cm.

The small size available to buy from many of the usual places, but TwentyTwentyOne stocks both sizes, costing £20 and £45 respectively.

Moustache Clouds Print

Il_430xN_177043277
Of course, men do still have moustaches, but not in the same numbers as they used to, and rarely in the twirling style depicted in this Moustache Clouds Print.

This type of facial hair alwayst calls to mind Salvador Dali and the idea of moustaches floating like cloud seems quite surreal too. The print measurres 8 by 10 and is available in a multi-coloured version (as pictured here) or with all black moustaches.

The print costs $20 (around £13) from MursBlanc’s Etsy store.

Tiger Tiger Console Table

Zebranan-sideboard(1)
The Tiger Tiger Console Table is a piece created by furniture designer Toby Davies.

It has been named after the William Blake line of poetry (as opposed to the chain of bars) and it has a decidedly mid-century look to it. It is made from zebrano wood, which is striped like a tiger and orange glass, which adds to the retro feel.

The table costs £1,650 and is available exclusively from Toby’s company Hunkydory Furniture.

The Book of the Edwardian and Inter-war House

Edwardianinterwarhouse
We often talk about Art Deco buildings or Brutalist architecture here, but we don’t mention the periods covered by this book quite so much. “The Book of the Edwardian and Inter-war House” by Richard Russell Lawrence looks at the homes built in these periods, a time when most people began to own their own homes and is a great introduction to the subject.

The book describes in detail, across 272 pages, the dominant styles of these periods. It also looks at the showpiece developments such as Hampstead Garden Suburb and Letchworth Garden City and the latter part of the book has sections focusing on individual elements of the house such as fireplaces, chimneys, bathrooms and tiles.

You can buy the book in hardcover for £22.99 from Amazon.

Hannah Turner Pompom Tableware

185709_pompom_teapot
We featured Hannah Turner’s most famous work, her ceramic birds, way back in 2007, but now the ceramic designer’s range also includes the Pompom Tableware collection.

The pompom design is made up of spirals and flowers in retro colours against blue and pink backgrounds. The teapot (£29.5), tall jug (£27) creamer jug (£16) have a slightly unusual shape which adds to their quirkiness. There is also a mug and a bowl ( both £14) in the range.
