Josef Frank world map cushion

Josef frank mapHere's something a little unusual for your home. A cushion featuring a world map designed by Josef Frank

Frank was one of the founders of the Vienna School of Architecture before emigrating to Sweden in 1933 where he became one of the most prestigious designers in the company Svenskt Tenn. It's Svenskt Tenn who have produced this cushion, based on one of his design from 1939. With no borders between the countries, it's a reaction to the political situation at the time and the fact Frank had fled Nazism in Austria. Using simple black and white, the design is a striking statement.

The cushion is handprinted and costs 890 SEK, which works out to be roughly £80.

Love Hate teapot by Welovekaoru

LovehateteapotLooking for a teapot with a bit more attitude than the usual designs? Check out the Love Hate teapot from Welovekarou.

The design is inspired by the 1955 film The Night of the Hunter and the Love/Hate tattoos across character Harry Powell's knuckles. One side of the teapot shows Love, illustrated by a traditional tattoo style heart and doves. The other side of course shows hate – portrayed by a dagger going through a heart. Something to ponder over a pot of tea!

The teapot costs £60 while you can get the same design on a cup and saucer for £28 for a cup and saucer.

Carl Hansen CH07 chair by Hans J.Wegner

Ch07

A midcentury classic that’s available once more in 2010 – the Carl Hansen CH07 chair by Hans J.Wegner.

Sometimes called the ‘smiling chair’ due to its shape, this gem from 1963 is a mix of form-pressed wood veneer and in either ash, oak, or walnut, oiled to bring out the grain, along with a seat in a range of Kvadrat Divina fabrics in various colours.

A chair that’s great to look at, but also sturdy on those three legs and comfortable too. Prices start at £1,552.

Fornasetti Home Fragrances

CANDLE%20BACIO
The latest items to be added to the ever-expanding range of Fornasetti products, is a collection of Fornasetti Home Fragrances.

The collection includes scented candles in ceramic pots decorated with his instantly recognisable designs Bacio (mouth/kiss), L'Architettura (architecture), Civette (owls) and L'Ape (bee), priced £90 or larger scented candles with the Viso a strisce (stripy face) or Scimmie (monkeys) for £350. There are also oil diffusers, incense burners, room sprays and incense boxes, which are all perfumed with the same fragrance.

The scent used is “Otto”, the eighth variation, which uses Mediterranean herbs found around the Fornasetti family home, along with woods used in Formasetti’s furniture and interiors, and incense to recreate the dreamlike qualities of his designs. It is always tricky to know if you will like a fragrance based just on a description, but with these products, you are probably paying for the containers and packaging as much as the scent itself.

Hanitape Cassette-Shaped Wallet

1284075586_733102315
There are almost as many cassette-tape related products as there are vinyl-inspired items, although I doubt somehow that the CD will be the cause of such nostalgia in years to come. The latest cassette item I’ve seen is the Hanitape, a wallet by the London based design Haniboi.

Made from recyclable silicone rubber in the shape of a cassette tape, the Hanitape fastens using magnets so that your cash and cards are kept securely inside. It is available in three bright colours (red, yellow and blue, but I think the grey version looks most like a real tape.

Buy the Hanitape online from the Hanibol website, for £12.50
