Ercol Studio 1950s sofa reissued

Studio

We featured one item reissued for the company's 90th anniversary yesterday, but here's another gem that's back from the Ercol archives – the Ercol Studio sofa.

Designed by company founder Lucian Ercolani in the late 1950s, it's both stylish and versatile, not least because it can double up as an occasional bed as well as a sofa.

Made from solid elm and beech, you can get it finished in a wide range of fabrics. Because of that point, prices vary, but start at £1,875.

Horrockses Fashions exhibition opens at the Fashion and Textile Museum

Horrockses-exhibition

We mentioned this a while back when we were talking about the V&A's range of Horrockses-inspired products and now is your chance to see some of the originals as the Horrockses Fashions: Off the Peg style in the '40s and '50s opens at London's Fashion and Textile Museum.

Horrockses Fashions were best known for their full-skirted, bold and brightly printed cotton dresses. The exhibition gives you the opportunity to find out a bit more about the label and the people – including the Queen – who wore them, as well as ogle their unique and coveted designs. An accompanying book by the exhibition curator, Christine Boydell, is available for £17.49 from Amazon.

The exhibition opens on Friday, 9 July and runs until 24 October.

Bauhaus-inspired Scott chair at John Lewis

Scott1

A very interesting design from John Lewis, with the Scott chair looking like a modernist reissue, but actually being a new design.

Inspired by the Bauhaus school of design, it's a stylish mix of metal and leather, that uncomplicated polished stainless steel frame supporting the leather recliner and cushioning, which is perfect for relaxing into after a busy day (or during a less-than-busy weekend).

See over the page for a front-facing shot and if you like what you see, the Scott chair sells for £999.

Ercol’s 90th anniversary tri-colour nest of tables

Ercol_colour

We actually featured the standard set some time ago, but Ercol has now produced a special 90th anniversary edition of its nest of tables with added colour.

It's still the same midcentury classic, a 1956 design from company founder Lucian Ercolani. Indeed, this edition celebrates 90 years since Ercolani set up the company. For that milestone, the tables comes as the tri-colour edition, specifically the three colours you can see above that cover the elm seat and angled beech legs.

If you want the set, £525 secures the three limited edition tables.

TwentyTwentyOne warehouse sale – up to 85 per cent off design classics

Warehouse

We are fans of TwentyTwentyOne, which has plenty design classics on its racks, including some more obscure items (like the 1950s Hirche lounge chair we covered last week). So the warehouse sale might be worth checking out, especially with big discounts.

It takes place this Saturday, 10th July 2010 from 10am to 3am and for one day only. So get there early if you want to take full advantage. Like all warehouse sales, there's little detail of what will be available, only that the company will offer up to 85 per cent off furniture, lighting and accessories. Which sounds worth getting up early for to us.

The address you'll need is 18c River Street, London EC1R 1XN or telephone 0207 837 1900 for more details.
