Eero Aarnio 1960s Cognac XO armchair

Cognac

The original is near-impossible to find and to be honest, the reissue of the Eero Aarnio Cognac XO armchair isn't much easier to source either.

It's not actually a straight reissue of the 1966 Cognac V.S.O.P. chair (hence the slight name change), this version is bigger and 'more ergonomic', but still hads that distinctive fibreglass frame and some upholstery in a Tonus fabric in your choice of colour.

Of course it isn't  cheap, with prices around the £4,000 mark, but there's no denying it's a head turner.

Liquorice Loops 60s-style kinetic mobile by Ivan Black

Laikingland loop-mobile1

Ivan Black's Liquorice Loops is a little piece of art for your home that looks like it has come straight out of the sixties. Not only because of the look of the curved laminate pieces but also because it plays with kinetic art, which is seen as reaching its golden age in that era. It's constructed using a combination of magnets and ball bearings so that the loops will start moving with a slight blow onto the piece.

It measures 30cm high and costs £160. It's just one of the kinetic objects offered by Laikingland, so if you like this there's plenty more to explore.

Ross Lovegrove 70s-style Tri-Oval Table for Knoll

Trioval

A modern design, but there's no denying that the Ross Lovegrove Tri-Oval Table for Knoll could have come kicking and screaming from the 1970s.

Tri-Oval presumably because of the oval glass and three-legged support, the low table is available in a wide range of finishes, from clear and chrome to bright and colourful, but we prefer this smokey top and bronze frame which pushes the 70s- factor up to 11.

Shop around for the best price, but expect to pay around £1,000.

Keith Haring fabric patches from the Pop Life exhibition shop

Fabric patches

The exhibition Pop Life opened last week at Tate Modern. The show looks at the impact of Pop Art and how following generations of artists embraced the cult of celebrity and the commercial opportunities it offered. At the centre of the exhibition is a recreation of Keith Haring's Pop Shop which he set up in New York to sell his branded products directly to the public. Of course this means Tate is stocking some great related products, including these fabric patches.

Reflecting Haring's willingness to put his name to just about anything, they use four of his famous designs, including the baby. They are perfect for adding a touch of street art to a worn, but otherwise loved, item of clothing. At £4.40 each they are a cheap way into buying into a favourite artist and the spirit of the exhibition.

Slice chest and side table by Wales & Wales for Heal’s

Slice_heals

We’ve already featured the Robert Welch Hobart candlestick and the Heals: 200 Years book, but here’s another product that’s come out of Heal’s bicentenary celebrations. Part of the Heal’s ReDiscovers collection, the Slice chest and side table has been designed by Wales & Wales and is inspired by Christopher Heal’s multifunctional designs.

The chest and table are made from walnut but the orange lacquer detailing sets them apart. It’s a touch that’s been used in some of Wales & Wales’ other work that seems to work particularly well on these pieces.

As you might imagine, this doesn’t come cheap. The side table costs £495 while the tall 6 drawer chest is £1495 and the wide version is £1795.

Oluce Atollo 1970s 233 gold table lamp by Vico Magistretti

Atollo

A design classic that's now available with a touch of bling – the Oluce Atollo 233 gold table lamp.

Designed by Vico Magistretti back in 1977, it's a stunning piece of work, with that pointed stand and a shade that 'hovers' on top, light controlled by the included dimmer function.

Made of aluminium with a lacquered finish, it sells for a rather hefty £1,568.
