eBay watch: Merrow Associates glass-fronted sideboard

Merrow_side

10 years back, Merrow Associates furniture was almost unknown, but fast forward a few years and it's everywhere – which means the once-high prices are coming down quite sharply. Except maybe for the more rare or bespoke pieces – like this Merrow Associates glass-fronted sideboard.

According to the eBay blurb, this was a bespoke piece from 1970 (many pieces were made to order), with glass replacing the usual metal or wood doors. Outside of that, there are aluminium supports, chrome trim, a rosewood veneer and glass shelves.

It might be unusual, but the price does actually reflect the credit crunch and Merrow's proliferation on eBay – up for a 'buy it now' of £890.

eBay watch: Buro Vormkrijgers Pong Clock

Pong_clock_2

Back in 2006,
we featured the Pong Clock by Dutch design studio Buro Vormkrijgers – a cool piece of retro design produced in very limited quantities for 199 Euros. In hindsight, that was probably a shrewd investment.

One of the clocks has surfaced on eBay with a ‘Buy It Now’ of £799.99. Now that sounds hefty, but bear in mind only 400 of these were officially made worldwide, with Atari stepping in to ensure only that number were made (they still own the copyright).

In terms of what you get, well it’s a digital clock in a smoked casing and in the style of the original game and with a game of Pong built in – against the clock though, not against someone else. The Pong Clock has a serial number and signature and this particular model is unused and is still in the original packaging. Personally I still think it’s a little expensive, but if you have the cash, it’s an investment that can only go up.

eBay watch: Moller International M200x – a real space age flying car

Moller

Like many people, I was constantly sold the idea of a flying car as a child – fully expecting it to be reality by the time I hit driving age. Well, amazingly, this actually happened.

May I present the Moller International M200x – an original flying car. Looking every bit the 60s-style Jetsons vehicle, the M200x was actually created back in 1989 and has since completed over 200 flights from a vertical take-off – and no pilot training is required to fly it. It fits two people, with an advanced (at the time) computer system keeping things level and stable, producing a ride ‘like a magic carpet’ apparently.

Four days to go if you want one, with the price currently hovering around the $18,000 mark. And don’t forget shipping from California.

eBay watch: 1970s Parrot Chair by Ib Arberg

Parrot

If you’re looking for a focal point for your room or apartment, this Parrot Chair by Ib Arberg will certainly provide it.

Production of the seat (also known as the Papegojan) started around 1970, continuing until the early 80s – but this is every bit the 70s piece, ideal if you’re going for that vibe in your home. The black metal frame holds the chrome ‘cage’, with that original orange cushion seat offering you a comfortable spot for your TV viewing or reading.

In excellent condition, the chair is on a ‘buy it now’ for £750.

eBay watch: Rare 1970s De Sede DS-1025 modular sofas

Desede

Film buffs will recognise the sofas above from the cult sci-fi thriller Logan’s Run, while design fans will know them as the ultra-rare De Sede DS-1025 modular sofas. And they’re up for grabs on eBay.

Designed by Ubald Klug in 1973, the space age De Sede DS-1025 made a fitting appearance soon after in Logan’s apartment in Logan’s Run, as well as in various high-end designer shops of the era. Both sit together to create a ‘terrace-like’ design for your living room. And these particular examples (in cigar brown leather) are described as being in ‘fantastic’ condition – the lived-in look of the leather only adding to the overall appearance.

You’ll need some serious space in your home to use them, not to mention some serious cash to buy them. They’re on a ‘Buy It Now’ for £6,650, with a ‘Best Offer’ should you wish to chance your arm.
