’50s style mirrored dressing table from Graham and Green

50s style mirrored table

Graham and Green manage to do glamorous retro furniture very well as evident in this 1950s influenced mirrored dressing table from their autumn collection. With its mirrored surfaces, it looks the ideal place for any aspirational Hollywood star to do their maquillage or perhaps it could be used as a desk to answer fan letters.

It's part of a '50s style angled range designed by Jamie Graham which also includes a chest of drawers and a cabinet, meaning the look can be carried through to the rest of the bedroom. Prices start at £299 for the chest of drawers with this dressing table costing £330.

Smeg supports Breakthrough Breast Cancer

Smegbreastcancer

Smeg’s 1950s style appliances need no introduction and have been featured here many a time before. But we have a particular reason for mentioning them again as the company is currently supporting the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer with sales of its pink products.

Until the end of the year, for every pink appliance sold, Smeg will donate 10 percent of the price to the cancer charity. You can buy your Smeg from any of the usual retailers and then download the donation form from the Smeg website and return it to them with a copy of your proof of purchase. A good excuse to treat yourself to a new appliance.

Visit the Smeg website for full details.

Ferm Living Retro Leaves wallpaper

RetroLeaves

There seems to have been lots of retro-inspired wallpapers recently and here's another one to add to the list: Ferm Living's Retro Leaves Wallpaper. Designed by Trine Anderson, it's part of their new 'Very Special Collection'. The papers all use the old-fashioned technique of surface print to produce a stencil like effect.

The technique works fantastically with the repeated pattern of skeletal leaves for this wallpaper. This, combined with the muted green and yellow colour scheme, recalls British designs of the 1950s.

The paper cost £54 a roll.

Bambi light

Shop_bambi

For those who prefer their retro cute and kitsch rather than classically refined, this Bambi light could be just the thing. It's a low voltage plastic lamp that's in the form of everyone's favourite deer.

It could be a sweet touch in a kid's room, or more of a statement piece in a grown-up's room. Either way, measuring 27cm high and 40cm across, it's not going to blend into the background.

The lamp costs £99 from the Caravan Style website

Kundalini Atomium Floor Lamp

KUNFATOM

We highlighted the Kundalini Atomium Pendant light last year, commenting on its great space-age looks. Here is its companion piece, the Atomium Floor Lamp which has a similar appeal.

The lamp has an irregular shape, made up of white globules. The lamp sits on the floor and makes an interesting focal point for any space-age style lounges.

It costs £378 from Utility Design.

Decoylabs Night Owl clock

Decoylab night owl clock

You can't have failed to notice the huge influx of owls currently appearing on homewares and stationery. Why complain when the birds featured look as nice as they do on this night owl clock made by Decoylabs? The image of the owl looks like it is taken from a children's illustrated book from the 60s or 70s but actually is the work of illustrator Maiko Kuzunishi. The clock comes in eight different colour combination and is made simply from digitally printed archival paper mounted onto board.

It's suggested for use in a kid's room but it looks far too appealing for that! The clock costs just $30 through her Etsy site.
