Puma Whirlwind 2 1980s trainers get reissue

Whirl1

Originally produced back in 1980, the Puma Whirlwind 2 trainers are back on the market 30 years after their debut.

The Whirlwind 2, as the name might suggest, was originally creat5ed as a running shoe, but the reissue has amended things just a little bit, removing the racing spike and extending the multi pimpled outsole, which offers the shock absorption.

Anne Barrell English Seaside Plates

PADDLING-BOY-PLATE

Anne Barrell makes ceramics designed to evoke the atmosphere of the English seaside with her designs featuring piers, promenades, beaches, fish and chip shops and other traditional English motifs.

Her range of plates particularly caught my attention. My favourites include the Paddling Boy design (pictured) which is inspired by holiday snaps from the 60s and 70s, and the Helter Skelter plate, featuring an image of the fairground attraction in Cromer. The plates are all available in three sizes, 16cm, 21.5cm and 27.5cm in diameter, costing £23, £31 and £38 respectively.

Visit Anne Burrell’s website to see the whole collection.

1930s-Style Oval Bedside Table

New Picture (1)

This Oval Bedside Table is based on a classic 1930’s design.

It features two deep drawers which provide a good amount of storage space, but its real selling point is the design’s curved contours, without any sharp edges at all, which gives it an elegant style. It is available in black or white gloss lacquer, but my preferences would be for the walnut veneer finish.

It costs £129 from Dwell and can be ordered now for delivery in June.

Artek 1930s-designed garden furniture by Alvar Aalto

Aalto1

Ok, the sun is out, so our thoughts turn to garden furniture, which doesn't get any classier than this Artek garden furniture by Alvar Aalto.

Designed by Aalto around 1938-39 for Villa Mairea (the house he designed for friends Harry and Maire Gullichsen), it has the designer's distinctive modernist spin across the range. A range that includes a garden chair, a lounger and two types of table.
