Pentax Optio H90 digital camera offers Dieter Rams-like styling

H90_3

Yesterday, we featured the 1960s-styling of the Pentax Optio I-10 camera. In the comments related to that camera, another new launch was pointed out – the Pentax Optio H90 digital camera.

It's not quite as obviously retro as the I-10, but it does look like it could have come straight out of the Dieter Rams design catalogue – the kind of stylish but functional design the great man was known for. We suspect that's no accident – and Rams should indeed be flattered by his continuing influence.

Adidas Samba trainers get exclusive white leather reissue

Samba_white

Retailer Size has once again bagged an exclusive on a classic trainer – the Adidas Samba, which it has in this very stylish white leather finish.

Originally a football shoe back in 1962 before becoming the casual and terrace classic from the 70s onwards, the Samba has a timeless profile that's boosted here with that mix of white leather and white mesh for the upper, constrasted with an airforce blue for the sole and branding.

Very smart and certain to be limited in numbers, it retails for £54.99.

Babydoll Bow Dress from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel

Rykiel

The girlish aesthetic of the mid sixties in Britain is still one of the most arresting retro styles, with many designers still giving a nod to the work of Mary Quant and her peers. This A-Line Bow Dress by Sonia Rykiel fits into the style with ease, providing us with a piece of retro fashion that's hard to resist.

The dress sticks to the much-loved simplicity of babydoll styles, leaving the A-line cut and rich fabric to create a perfect sixties silhouette. The seaming detail above the bust provides some much-needed fit at the collar, preventing the dress from swamping the body.

From Sonia Rykiel's diffusion line, simply named Sonia, this dress is available online from My Wardrobe for £225.

Tennis wallpaper from Turner Pocock Cazalet

Tennis-wallpaper

Though we've featured hundreds of trainers and items of clothing that draw on the rich heritage of tennis, it's hard to think of its influence on home wares. Well, all that could change with this Tennis wallpaper from Turner Pocock Cazalet

The wallpaper uses a repeat design of tennis bats and balls in the classic colours of white and green, of course featuring the yellow balls too. There's a close-up of the pattern over the page. Although it's a very unusual design, it recalls novelty patterns of the 1920s and 30s.

If you like the idea but not the game featured, they've also created a wallpaper featuring that other classic British sport – cricket.

Also available in more neutral vintage colour way, a roll costs £70.50.

Camembert cheese plates

Camembert-plates

Lovers of a particular brand of French fromage may remember the Camembert cheese clock from way back. More cheesy designs available here with the Camembert cheese plates

The set draws on the archives of Camembert and their history of distinctive labels and adverts. The designs look like they've come from various periods with my favourite being the art nouveau influenced label shown at the bottom.

The designs are printed onto porcelain and, measuring just over 20cm across, you'll be pleased to hear they can hold a lot of cheese! A set of four costs £22.95.
