The Jolene Dress from Heartbreaker Fashion

Jolene

Fifties style reproductions in fashion can often concentrate on the supersexy, with rockabilly and pin-up styles as the most popular and easy to find. Heartbreaker Fashion are offering something more mainstream, and with equal flair.

The Jolene Dress has that all-American 50s diner feel, but doesn't veer into looking like something from the Grease wardrobe. Available in both pink and blue polka dots, as well as block brown and a bold print version too, this is a great retro piece for day or night.

Get it online from the Heartbreaker shop for $78.

Black Squire Flapper Dress from Paul & Joe

Black squire The 1920s fashion scene is perfect to plunder for night-time fashion in the colder months, with plenty of sparkle on show. Unfortunately, much of the modern retrospectives on the decade can veer into looking more dressing up box than wearable chic.

This Paul & Joe dress, however, takes an instantly recognisable flapper style and does justice to the luxurious glamour of the era. The Black Squire Flapper Dress uses a straight cut silhouette, creating a bit of sex appeal with a short hem and tassling. The black beading treads the line between subtlety and glamour with ease.

It's available online from My Wardrobe in the UK for £880 – a big pricetag, but for 100% pure silk and showstopping style.

Barker and Stonehouse Hope & Glory Sofa

HOPEGLORY_1_Large

Continuing the ongoing trend for using union jacks in interior design, this Hope & Glory sofa from Barker and Stonehouse makes a dramatic statement. The whole sofa is covered in a vintage-looking union jack fabric. The faded upholstery combined with its Chesterfield shape gives this sofa a shabby chic feel rather than having a bright pop look.

For £1595, you'll need to question if you'll still love it once union jacks fall from fashion again. If the answer to that is a resolute yes, you'll also be pleased to hear that a matching foot stool is also available.

SingStar: Motown arrives on the PlayStation 3

Singstar

Let's be honest, who can resist a drunken night in front of the TV with a plastic microphone singing along to some old hits? Not us, that's for sure. Unfortunately, most of the music discs released forSingStar have been…well…a bit rubbish. That's until today, with the launch of SingStar: Motown, released as part of the Motown 50 celebrations.

Yes, you can croon your way through Motown classics of the 1960s and 70s to score points, to beat your mates or just because you fancy a singalong now that the pubs have closed and you're half cut. If you've already got the microphones, just slap in the disc to access everything from Mary Wells and Marvin Gaye to Rick James and the Commodores.

Around 30 tracks in total, which you can pick up for £17.99 for the PS3 version (PS2 also available with slightly less tracks). See over the page for the full tracklisting.

Max and the Lost Note by Graham Marsh

Max

Mod-related kids books, who'd have thought? But there is such a thing, or at least there's Max and the Lost Note by Graham Marsh.

Pitched as the kids' book that adults would read, this 32-page hardback book is the work of Graham Marsh, the man behind The Cover Art of Blue Note Records. He's still ploughing a similar furrow too, this time with Max, a sharp dresser, piano player and Vespa rider, who hangs out in Kitty's Place searching for a 'note', aided by singing group The Felines and Long Tall Dexter, Double Bass Sam, and lots more feline musicians.

So don't expect War and Peace, but if you want a hip children's read, this one is available via publisher Frances Lincoln and of course from Amazon from 1st October, priced at £10.79.
