Alpha print from James Brown

Alpha

There's an abundance of retro alphabet prints that we've featured of late, but this Alpha print from one of our favourites James Brown, goes one step further.

The striking 4 colour lithograph should prove invaluable in these days of telephone banking and such. The letters of the alphabet are accompanied with their appropriate nautical flag and phonetic pronunciation. Hang it in pride of place for textbook enunciation worthy of a tweed-clad ex-field marshall.

£15 from the General Pattern Big Cartel store.

“A Visual Compendium of Notable Haircuts in Popular Music” Print

Haircutsprint_main_b_434x581
Pop Chart Lab’s mission is to render the world in the form of charts, covering a wide range of popular culture subjects, my favourite being this one.

“A Visual Compendium of Notable Haircuts in Popular Music” is a limited edition print that as the name clearly states offers illustrations of music’s most memorable styles. The illustrations are just of the hair (including facial hair where applicable) without faces, but they are all pretty easy to recognise – although initial and surname are given below just in case. As you would expect McCartney’s mop top, Ziggy Stardust era Bowie and Morrissey’s quiff are in there, but with plenty of others too. The print measures 18 by 24 inches and has been signed by the artists.

Buy it online from the Pop Chart Lab priced $25.

Periodic Table of Heavy Metals print from Pop Chart Lab

Heavy metal
For those about to rock, we salute you. As does this print from Pop Chart Lab.

The Periodic Table of Heavy Metals charts the history of axe-wielding rockers, from 70s legends such as AC/DC and Black Sabbath, through the poodle barnets of the 80s and all the way to the present day. A grand total of 303 bands are featured on the print and are catagorised by sub-genre. About as much rock as you can fit on one piece of archive paper – this one goes up to 11.

$25 from Pop Chart LabSee the website for more details.

Mobile Evolution by Kyle Bean

Mobile Evolution

This Mobile Evolution print by Kyle Bean is a simple but effective way to show how technology has changed over a relatively short period.

The Brighton based design has placed simplified models of the phones into a line, starting with the huge brick like forms of over 30 years ago and moving onto the more slimline devices of today.

If you like, snap it up now as it's a limited edition of 100.

The A4 sized print costs £22.

PLOC 1960s-inspired magazine for kids

Ploc1

Whether you buy it for your little ones or for yourself, PLOC magazine is certainly worth getting your hands on.

On the face of it, PLOC is a magazine aimed at children between the ages of three and eight, but look closely and you might notice those distinctive graphics. That's down to the illustration by legendary 60s artist Alain Gree, which makes it worthy of an adult's attention too.

The content walks a fine line between educating and having fun, with stories (How is bread made? What animals live at the farm? Learning to count with happy birds on a wire), colouring pages, spot the difference games, mazes and activities. You can grab a copy via Anorak, £7 is the price. See an inside shot over the page.
