These Are Things retro-styled maps

Europe-maps

Looking for a map that fits into a modernist decor but one that's also geographically up-to-date? Well, that's the exact challenge that faced graphic designers Jen Adrion and Omar Noory and led them to form These Are Things who create great retro-styled maps

The maps clearly draw their influence from late 1950s/early 60s design in both their typography and colour scheme, handily just not in the naming of places or drawing of boundaries. Their map of Europe is pictured and they also produce a world map and one of the United States with a similar look. Each design is hand screen-printed and carries off that rare combination of being educationally, geographically and aesthetically sound!

The map of Europe costs $40.

Aardvark Manifesto print

Mani

A ardvark Tea Room & Gallery is a fantastic little place in St Leonards-on-Sea. As well as serving up good food, they also use their space to showcase the work of artists and makers. But that’s not all – the Aardvark team have now moved into creating their own posters.

Pictured here is the Aardvark Manifesto print, which neatly sums up their ethos with slogans such as “Bake Cake Drink Tea” and “Love All the People”. This print is A3 size and is available either unframed (£20) or in a black aluminium frame for £40. There are two other inspirational prints which use the same black and red retro typefaces, but are A2 size and cost £25 unframed or £60 framed.

Buy the prints directly from Aardvark.

Scoreline – graphic art showcasing classic goals

1966

Here's something that might not be obvious at first glance, so let us explain Scoreline.

Essentially these are posters that graphically outline goals scored in classic football matches. Every World Cup final since 1934 and soon, FA Cup and League Cup games too.

The one above is obviously the 1966 World Cup Final, producing an image that could be pop art from that very same decade. If you want it, head over to the company's website, where it can be yours for £30.

Paul Flack Cup of Tea Print

Product_1085_productEnlarge

You may well be tired of vintage slogan prints after the overkill of the Keep Calm range, but I think Paul Flack’s Cup of Tea print is worth making an exception for,

I like the print itself with its wonderful retro fonts and any mention of cups of tea always go down well here, but what makes this print more interesting is the story behind it. Paul Flack was inspired by a photograph of Julie Christie sitting in a 1960s London cafe, where on the wall behind her is a poster like this one. So he created a replica of it, which you can now buy for yourself.

The print costs £80 from Bespoke Boutique.

Sodas: Pop-inspired prints by The Design Conspiracy

Soda

The Design Conspiracy have been influenced by Pop Art in their new series of Sodas screen prints

The London-based design studio have produced five different designs, each illustrating the top of a vintage soda bottle. The bright colours and over-sized graphics, fascination with packaging and the collective work on the project has obvious links back to Warhol and his factory project. Attractive individually, or a a set, each design is hand-pulled screen printed and limited to just 25 copies.

The designs cost £35 each.
