Desk Set by Christian Ghion

3238

The concept of beautifully crafted desk accessories has fallen from favour but this gorgeous Desk Set by Christian Ghion for XO could reverse that trend.

The set includes two paper trays, normally a very dull item that you wouldn’t have thought could be changed, but here the subtle change in shape and the use of colours, make them much more interesting. The trays, like the rest of the set, are made from ABS plastic in orange, hessian brown and grey, which give the set a retro dimension. Other items include a paperclip holder, pencil holder, pencil sharpener and tape dispenser.

As is so often the case, great design comes at a price, in this cost £170 if you buy it from Nest.

Archivio Storico Tris modernist table lamp

Tris

There seems to be a glut of stylish design reissues from the Archivio Storico stable right now, including this incredibly cool Tris table lamp.

You would probably bet your house on this being a modernist gem from 1930s Italy, but in actual fact, the lamp dates from 1950, offering up a chrome-plated brass frame, a glass 'bowl' that's been sandblasted and painted white on the inside, plus a lower diffuser in white frosted glass.

It stands around 43cm tall and this Fontana Arte reissue is on the market for £723.

BT Tower Cross Stitch kit by Make Industries

BT Tower

Cross stitch and mid-sixties architecture seem a slightly unlikely combination but that's what you get with this BT Tower Cross stitch kit from Make Industries. The BT Tower (formerly the Post Office Tower) was built in 1964 and, to craft your very own version, the kit includes a pattern, thread and full instructions.

The woman behind Make Industries, Tina Fox, is a former architect and they also have kits available of a couple more iconic London buildings in the shape of Battersea Power Station and the Lloyds Building. Each kit costs £22.50.

Fifties-style kitchen hanger

Kitchen hanger

We featured a napkin holder last week, and this Fifties-style kitchen hanger will add another nice retro touch to the kitchen. Made from aluminium, it's partly a sign that writes out the word 'kitchen' in elegant 1950s-inspired cursive lettering. However, it has a practical use too as the sign also has three hooks, useful for hanging up aprons, tea towels or any other kitchen paraphernalia.

The hanger costs £38.50 from Graham and Green.

Kundalini Pluto Pendant Lamp

KUNSPLUT

The Kundalini Pluto Suspension Light is not a vintage design, but merits its inclusion here by the insistence of its description that the shade is shaped to resemble an art deco hat.

This resemblance is easy to see, but not so obvious that the shade becomes a novelty item. The glass has been mouth blown so each shade will be unique.

You can buy the Pluto shade online from Utility Design for £207.
